Orvieto is a city in south-western Umbria, province - Terni, situated on the flat summit of a large butte of volcanic tuff.

Orvieto is famous for its Gothic cathedral - Duomo. The church is striped in white travertine and greenish-black basalt in narrow bands. Its design has often been attributed to Arnolfo di Cambio, but according to other opinion - by monk named Fra' Bevignate from Perugia. Construction of Duomo began in 1290. The faηade is striking and includes some remarkable sculpture by Lorenzo Maitani (14th century). Inside the cathedral, the Chapel of San Brizio is frescoed by Fra Angelico and with Luca Signorelli's masterpiece, his Last Judgment (1449-51).

Duomo makes a big impression both outide as well as inside. In general Orvieto is a lovely city, full of charming corners and narrow streets. It's visited by tourists so it's more crowded (but not much in comparizon to San Gimignano, Siena, Florence) unlike to Spello. Definately worth seeing when traveling in Umbria!

It was quite difficult to take this picture, the facade was possible to be photographed just from one narrow street and there were lots of people walking in front of my object.
