Photographer's Note
Besides the beauty of the buildings which compose a harmonious whole, i.e. the Duomo, the Baptistery of San Giovanni, the Camposanto (the cemetery), and the most famous bell tower in the world, that is, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the history of the square is interesting in itself.
The square is situated right by the oldest early medieval city walls, built in 1155 and perfectly preserved.
I decided to shoot the famous leaned tower in the background to call the attention to this master piece the Bapstistery
In fact many people tend to compare both these structures as to find some interesting facts irrespective of whether they are similar or distinguishing. Being 54.8 m high with 104 m of circumference, the Pisa baptistery is even a bit big than the inclined tower in Italy.
Construction on the baptistery began in the Romanesque style under Diotisalvi in 1153. The interior has a diameter of 35,5 metres and features astounding acoustics. You can whisper on one side of the corridor, and a person on the opposite side can hear you perfectly.
If you expect to see only one leaning building in the square, you will be surprised to see that the Cathedral and the Baptistery are not standing straight either. The Battistero di San Giovanni also stands on the same uneven ground as that of the Leaning Tower, it does incline a bit towards the cathedral by 0.6 degrees because of the unsteady ground rich in water.
I hope you like the photo in black with or the color version I posted to "WORKSHOP".
I wonder which one you like more.............?

Good choice of the black and white tones for this shot: it enhances the beauty of the wonderful architecture. The cloudy sky is very fascinating as background.
