Indirect route to Shangri-La, a photo from Bolzano, Trentino Alto Adige

Photographer's Note

After a day of touring we arrived back in our sleeping place in St.Georgen,not far from Bruneck.
It was already around 18.00 and we were a bit exhausted
and above all hungry!
So we decided to go for dinner in Muhlbach,half an hour drive,because there was a good restaurant there with superbe local and Italian food.
While driving I noticed,that the typical after rain light was looking very fine that evening,so I Offered
my wife and daughter to drive "a little further on",to
make some nice pictures of us(good excuse) with a good mountain background.
They both agreed,but I had to promise not too far because they were hungry and ready for the restaurant.
From experience I knew it was at least an hour more to the Villnoss tal-Val di Funes valley,but I kept my mouth shut carefully.
After all I was lucky,because halfway on the motorway between Brixen and Bolzano they both fell asleep ;]]
The sun was already going down when I hurried into the
extremely narrow tunnel-like cleft,the beginning of the valley,the best vieuwpoint still about 20 min.away.
There was a glimpse for a few seconds of the 3025m peaks of the Geisler gruppe formation,they turned more and more red colored fom the low sun...there was no time to lose....
And finally we arrived in St.Magdalena,the last town and one of the most specteculair places Ive ever seen.
I woke up the 2 girls for the family photoshoot,and they liked it,I could have stayed there for hours more
but a man doesnt break his promise,does he?
And after all we were all starving,so we went back to
Muhlbach for a lovely outside dinner,what a holiday!

Superb mountain's landscape with a perfect composition in differents plans which give an incredible depht. I like theis charming small village and, in the BG, the beautiful prospect to the famous Dolomiti.

I remenber very well your previous post from this place : one of the most beautiful landscape on Earth ! This one is , may be , yet better , with the threatening clouds , and the wonderful light .
I've seen this view with autumn colors on a calendar , magic !

a superbe image of Villnφί, the light is really gorgeous and the POV perfectly chosen. Thankyou also for the nice and funny note :) I hate it always when people copy and paste kilometric notes from Wikipedia, so your personal note is very much appreciated. BTW an outside dinner would hardly be possible now, today it snowed for the second time under 1000 m this fall...

Hello Jan, This is one of the best photos I have seen here on TREK since I came back from my absence. Amazing composition and such a timely shot following the rain. Honestly, the mountains in the background look almost surreal as they extend their peaks into the rain troubled skies. incredible beautiful this composition. The fresh, soft green fields against the amazing rocky mountains is wonderful. Also like the shadows caused by the clouds and the inclusion of the trees at the fg.

Hi Jan,

It is a beautiful landscape, and you manage superbly the difficult light on the mountain and the cloud. The foreground is perfectly illuminated by the clear sky behind you. Good balance contrast not too strong, and beautiful rich colors. The whole image looks like a fairly tale story setting. Just breathtaking.
