Thermopoly - Pompeii

The Termopolio (V.3) is located right in front of the Locanda dei Gladiatori, almost on the corner between the Vicolo dei Balconi and the Via della Casa delle Nozze d'Argento. It is in excellent condition. The excavation, started in 2019, was completed in 2022.
It consisted of a small room with a richly decorated L-shaped counter and still kept the vases with the remains of the food and cooked dishes that the Pompeians used to consume on the street. On one of the sides are depicted two mallard ducks hanging by the feet, a rooster, a dog on a leash, on the short sides there is a splendid painting with a mythological theme: a nereid riding a hippocampus and carrying a zither and the illustration of the shop itself like a commercial sign. Also on one short side is the imprint left in the ash by a large wooden door and a balcony located on the upper floor.
The floor is made up of a layer of cocciopesto (a waterproof coating made of terracotta fragments) in which fragments of polychrome marble have been inserted in some places.
The remains of two men were also found: a man around the age of 50 lying on a cot in the back of the room who could have died crushed by the collapse of the attic and another, whose remains were found instead in a large terracotta vase. except one foot that was near the counter.
