Photographer's Note
Please take the time to view my photo on the TE Beta Link, its SO much better, so much clearer, it's worth the extra time. ICELAND LANDSCAPES.
Its funny, I've been to a few countries since my Iceland trip in 2017, but I keep going back to Iceland when looking for new TE posts.
As I hinted in the title, I had to sleep in my car for a few nights here and there during my trip. Most of the accommodations were full, and if they were not full, they were extremely overpriced. So, why not find a spot and sleep in my car, so I did. It was cold at night, even in August, I know most people wouldn't want to do that but I got to experience Iceland in a whole new way haha
After a poor nights sleep in my car, I drove off early to capture sunrise landscapes. I know for a fact if I had a hotel room I'd still be sleeping.
I captured this scene just 5 min after waking up and driving down the main road. I could have brightened the scene and increased the shadows, but I wanted to keep it the way I saw it with my own eyes.
Hopefully you'll like this one

Hello Craig,
You were definitely rewarded after your night in the car. The sunset is stunning with amazing pastel colours in the sky, which create a beautiful pattern with the small clouds. The silhouettes of the mountains are great too, especially the ones farthest away, they even seem to float just a few metres above the sea.

Hello Craig,
Superb colours and light and very picturesque clouds. Definitely a nicer view than a dull breakfast room at this time of the day. And you could even have a dip to freshen yourself up. It's a well taken photo with an amazing atmosphere.

Hello Craig,
Sleeping in the car is not my idea of a holiday these days, but then I would not be able to capture beautiful dawn scenes like this. I like very much the balance between light and shadow and the choice of the panoramic frame. Excellent light management has captured the mood and the nuances of tone in the cloud streaked sky.

Bonjour Craig,
Je ne dirais pas la mκme chose rendu ΰ mon βge avancι. Je trouverais cela difficile mais dans ton cas, cela valait certainement la peine. Quels beaux reflets jaunes dans les eaux.

Hello Craig, certainly worth the discomfort of sleeping in the car if this is the scene on waking!
The subtle colours of the sky and therefore the reflection on the water are magical.
Inspiration for a painting in watercolour.
Regards Jean.

Hi Craig,
That sky is fantastic. So many tones and so many different clouds. And reflections from still water are great too. Another way to enjoy sunrise is to fly eastwards and suffer from jet lag. Or staying here in the north in winter time. So you don't need to be an early bird to see the sunrise.

Good choice not to "play" with exposure and shadows, Craig, this would ruin the scene altogether, IMHO.
The natural light and the colors superbly rendered on this, true as you saw it, and just minutes after a rough night's sleep... ha ha… I was sleeping in RR-stations in some places - but would not dare to do so if I do the driving the next day.
Good afternoon,
Ike

Hello Craig,
The prices of the overnight stays (and the food) are what stop me from visiting Iceland. Sleeping in the car? Yes, maybe for one night. And then you take a bath in glacier water? ...
But I agree the scene is one to rub your eyes open.
The dark foreground, the soft tones in the sky well reflected in the water and the hazy mountains on the distance, ... superb!
What a wonderful dawn!
Best regards, Paul

Hello Craig,
What a great landscape; there's such a feeling of tranquility. It seems like you had the whole place to yourself, too. :-) Maybe it would be a good idea to rent an RV and drive it around Iceland, that way you always have accommodations and can go wherever you want with it. On the other hand, maybe it's also very expensive, or can't be parked everywhere...

Hi Craig
Beautiful pastel colours, good choice to leave them this way. Having your own moveable home enabled you to capture this special moment.
I spent five days sleeping in my rental car in Iceland in 2006 and a full week in 2015. It's a perfect country to do that - they even have really nice public showers in places... It occurred to me that sleeping in a car would be a good idea after a cold wet and windy night in a tent.
Best wishes
Kasia

Hello Craig,
I can imagine sleeping in the car but not when its really cold!
Did you have a sleeping bag?
On the plus side, you did get this amazing sunrise which would have been missed if you had been comfy ... oh, you saved money, too!
I love the hint of mist at the foot of the hillside, which seems to drift out onto the water, creating a hazy gap.
The colours in the sky are beautiful and are nicely picked up in the water.
It is surely a dreamy scene!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Craig.
Wonderful composition, with this special sunset, ideal variety of colors in the sky, which in turn also mark the tone of the water, ideal the backlight with different degrees of intensity on this coast so trimmed, the mountains in the background seem to float in the line of the sea with a light fluorine.
Magnificent color, which gives great strength to the image.
Very good lighting and perfect sharpness.
Well done. I like very much.
Have a nice day.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hello Craig,
It is a pity that the coordinates of this place are missing, so that I cannot see where you captured this beautiful sunrise exactly , but on the other hand there are many of these places in Iceland.
I wonder why you didn’t tried to overnight in one of the many deserted Icelandic cottages. 😊
Beautiful picture
Have a good weekend, groet Rob

Hi Craig,
I see you are looking at the bright side :)
But indeed camping for example is so much more interesting, one can feel much closer to nature. Having said that, my old back prefers to sleep in a motel instead of the tent nowadays...
This is a spectacular scenery! The point of view was brilliant. The reflection is perfect!Nice to see the little fog at the furthermost hills in the distance. The yellowish tones are surreal!
Excellent nature photography,
M
