Photographer's Note

This is a Noe-Renaissance bank building at 15 Szabasαg (Liberty) Square. It was built in 1901 as a five-storey apartment building with retail stores on the ground level. The architect was Ernő Schannen (1853–1916), and the sculpture group in the pediment was made by Kαroly Fleischl (1865–1946). A new owner in 1915 made it more luxurious inside. The building was not severely damaged in WWII and was nationalized and was used as offices of different ministries until 1981. In the 1980s different state owned banking and trading businesses used it. In 1989, after a year of renovation it become the Head Office of the Inter Europe Bank, and the bank sponsored the complete restoration of the building which lasted until 1998. The people who designed and executed the restoration received various awards. The Inter Europe Bank was privatized in 1990-91, and the Italian CIB bank become part owner.
