Photographer's Note

On my yesterday posted picture of Baross square the facade of the Keleti (East) railway station is partially visible behind the Baross monument, it is richly decorated with sculptures. On this picture I show a close-up of the four statues above the main entrance of the station. They are copies of the originals made in 1884 and are allegorical representations of four basic industries mining, manufacturing, agriculture and commerce. I also put a close up of the sculpture group on the top of the building into the Workshop. It is an allegorical representation of the railway with the Greek gods of water (Neptunus) and fire (Vulcanus) and an angel of the steam engine is standing proudly between them. These sculptures were cast from aluminum in 1990, based on the original design of Gyula Bezerιdi in 1884. I have no good pictures of the two men in the niches of the facade, they are George Stephenson and James Watt.
