Photographer's Note

This highly decorated concert hall was built after a more modest one at this location was destroyed during the war for independence with the Austrians in 1849.   In 1859 Frigyes Feszl was commissioned to design a new concert hall, specifically with a Hungarian style. The new building was opened in 1864, but again it was almost completely destroyed during WWII, but this time it was decided to rebuild it exactly as it was designed by Frigyes Feszly in the 19th century. The reconstruction started in 1968 and took more than 40 years. All the statues were re-carved based on photographs, and all the interior art work restored. I put two close-up pictures into the Workshop to show the fine detail of the sculptures on the faηade.
