While approaching the Parthenon, on the Acropolis, on the left Erechthιion with its famous platform of the Caryatids is. It is a temple tomb, curious assembly of several sanctuaries.Originally called temple of Athιna Polias, it was then indicated under the name of more beautiful of its buildings:Erechthιion. Built between 421 and 406 before JC by the Philoclθs architect, it rises in the part more crowned Acropolis, where Posιidon and Athιna disputed the possession of the Attic (the first left the mark of its three-pronged fork there, the second planted a crowned olive-tree there), it is also built on the vestiges of old places of worship. It is one chief-of?uvre of ionic architecture, of three elements: the northern hall, the temple itself in which was a statue of Athιna Polias out of wood of olive-tree, the gantry of the Caryatids (columns carved in the shape of women).
