The port of Naousa in Paros, Cyclades is buzzing with activity. Fishing boats are coming and going, others are getting a rest to prepare for the night trip.

In summer Naousa is one of the peak destinations, tourists are massively found strolling on the streets and shops & tavernas are bustling with activity, especially close to the port. In winter, however, the activity remains in the port but is mostly thanks to fishing boats and fishermen.

The main fishing tradition of Paros is beach seine, a coastal fishing tactic now banned by the EU. Purse seining, a more industrialized fishing gear aims at catching fish living in the superficial waters, e.g. small pelagic fish, such as sardine and anchovy or coming there every night because of their natural vertical migrations, e.g. bogue and picarel, as is the case in the Cyclades area and thus in Naousa.

Here a part of the fishing fleet of Naousa. What initially attracted me in taking a photo of these boats was the colour of their prows, but, overall after taking the photo I loved the combination of colours.
