Photographer's Note

The small and wonderful island of Patmos is a very important place in the Christian religion. John the Evangelist wrote there the most famous part of his Gospel : the Apocalypse.

On the background, the dark building among the white houses is a very famous monastery, dedicated to ... St John ! It was built during the 11 and 12th centuries but the impressive walls are only from the 17th.

The port from which the pic was taken is nowadays a pleasant place with many hotels and restaurants.
But in the previous centuries it used to be just composed by a couple of warehouses in wich the merchants were working at day. Every evening the went back to the upper-town to get the protection of its walls (naughty pirats ...)
