Photographer's Note
A door knocker found at the front gate of a house in the Chora of Patmos. I thought it was funny to welcome visitors and greet passers by with this weird face. It's fascinating and unique, though.
I converted the picture into black and white because I didn't like the way I had captured the brown colour of the wood and my lighting wasn't good either. The brass took a totally different aspect in the monochrome.
Thank you for visiting

Hi Ourania
A brilliant idea to convert to black and white. As well as hiding the color you did not like, it had given such a stark austere look to this most unusual piece of door ornamentation. As soon as I saw this, it remined me of the door knocker in A Christmas Carol. Fantastic detail captured in both the knocker and the texture of the wood.
This is a really eye catching photo.
Best wishes or from Ireland

Very well done.

Hello Ourania,
I have in Bruges almost all the door knockers photographed, maybe almost 800, great and small.
This is Always a specially architecture but also a nice artwork for the designer.
A splendid composition, lovely presentation too.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice day,
John.

Bonjour Ourania,
C'est a se demander si on est bienvenue avant de frapper ΰ cette porte. J'aime beaucoup l'utilisation du noir et blanc qui fait ressortir les contrastes et les ombres.L'ensemble est d'une grande nettetι.

Hello Ourania
that is a bit scary :-) but no doubt a great shot with perfect black and white treatment. You have brought out the details of the door knocker along with the texture of the wooden door with great clarity and - as you write - without the colours which can in certain situations become distracting. Thanks for sharing this fascinating picture.
Have a nice evening.
best regards

Hi Ourania,
I'd be interested to see the color version, but I surely get just as much pleasure from this take on the knocker. Your choice of title is a bit contradictory to the visual...and I like it! :) Even though this is quite an ornate and unusual piece of work, not everyone would realize the potential for it to be photographed and presented in such a fun and intriguing visual. Proof yet again that you're able to envision things in a manner most would pass by. I'm loving the contrasting textures, especially under this monochromatic scheme, a great framing to accentuate the detail and composition. Wonderful result! Enjoy the new day. All the best.
Friendly wishes,
Jason

Hello Ourania,
I love it!
Strong and very expressive presentation of the door knocker.Your B&W treatment is just perfect and brings out the whole splendor of this detail and gives the scene so unique and captivating "metallic" shine.
Very imaginative and creative shot!

Hi Ourania
A superb b&w image of the ornately decorated door knocker with a marvellous silvery sheen throughout. Good tonal range and superb textural details revealed by the good lighting. Punchy light contrasts with good shadow and highlight details. Have a wonderful weekend!

Kalimera Ourania,
Heavy piece of mettal on a close view, show well its carved art details. Wonder how it looks in real brown as you wrote, though the result is with fine clear details.
Enjoy a nice weekend,
Ike

Hi Ourania
Superb closeup work and this is always an interesting subject matter to shoot, man made finely sculptured wood and antique knocker that made to last! The delicate detail - wise mono conversion- with plenty of surface characteristics, the tones and mature wood grains really makes the photo stand out deliciously It's only well observed by keen eyes, a truly hidden beauty and a lovely subject just waiting to be explored. Fine work, Congrats.
Best regards

Hi Ourania,
If you say so... I would feel more intimidated than welcome if I were greeted by this face, but to each his own! I like the photo, though, the details are showing well and B&W conversion suits it well, too.
On second look, I think I see a faint smile on that face, maybe, just maybe...
Regards,
MT
