The Lake of Vouliagmeni, Attica

The Lake of Vouliagmeni (meaning sunk in Greek) is situated at the southern coast of Attica, within a wonderful and very scenic place, at a distance of some 21 kilometers far from the center of Athens.Ιt is found just some 100 meters far from the sea.

The lake is due to a geological phenomenon: some 20 centuries ago the roof of a big cave caved in due to the corrosion and geological activity; as a result a lake appeared very close to the sea. In all probability, the lake is not directly linked to the sea, although it gets sea water, pretty hot (of a temperature of 30-35ο C ). An extended part of the cave is underwater, with rambling passages, still unexplored. The lake is supplied with fresh water from a spring found in a depth of 17 meters from the sea level. Even in winter the temperature of the water never falls below 18ο C, which allows the visitors to swim even during the cold winter days.

Λίμνη Βουλιαγμένης,Αττική

Η λίμνη της Βουλιαγμένης βρίσκεται σε απόσταση περίπου 21 χιλιόμετρα από το κέντρο της Αθήνας, δίπλα ακριβώς από την θάλασσα (λιγότερο από 100 μέτρα την χωρίζουν), στην νότια ακτή της Αττικής και σε μια πολύ ωραία και γραφική τοποθεσία. Κατά την διάρκεια της Τουρκοκρατίας η λίμνη ονομάζεται με ένα κοντινό με το σημερινό της όνομα, δηλαδή «Βουλιασμένος» ή με το τούρκικης προέλευσης «Καράτσι» που σημαίνει «μαυριδερό νερό».

Η λίμνη είναι δημιούργημα ενός γεωλογικού φαινομένου: πριν 20 περίπου αιώνες τμήμα της οροφής ενός πολύ μεγάλου σπηλαίου κατέρρευσε, λόγω της τεκτονικής δράσης και της διάβρωσης, με αποτέλεσμα να εμφανιστεί μια λίμνη δίπλα σχεδόν στην θάλασσα με την οποία μάλλον δεν επικοινωνεί άμεσα, παρόλο που τροφοδοτείται με ζεστό θαλασσινό νερό (με συνηθισμένη θερμοκρασία 30-35ο C). Μεγάλο τμήμα του σπηλαίου είναι υποβρύχιο και οι κυριολεκτικά δαιδαλώδεις διάδρομοί του είναι ακόμα και σήμερα στο μεγαλύτερο μέρος τους ανεξερεύνητοι. Η λίμνη τροφοδοτείται συνεχώς και με γλυκό νερό από μια πηγή που βρίσκεται σε βάθος 17 περίπου μέτρα κάτω από την επιφάνεια του νερού. Ακόμα και τον χειμώνα η θερμοκρασία του νερού δεν πέφτει ποτέ κάτω από τους 18ο C, γεγονός που επιτρέπει άνετα στους επισκέπτες να κολυμπήσουν και τις κρύες χειμωνιάτικες μέρες.

Nice blue hour shot, very intense colors and a nice combinattion of gold and blue. the contrast is a bit too strong in the light area. Great symmetry. It is a little strang how the reflection of the hill and cave is perfecly sharp but the reflection of the sidewalk and person is blur. Something is not right, but don't know what it is.

The reflections on the water are assets to the composition. The presence of the persons has an effect of scale. The use of a tripod and of a slow speed of exposure is giving a nice image. This capture at the blue hour has a perfect technical execution, but in addition you have could catch the horizontal symmetry in this framing, including the magnificent reflections of these rocks in the water of the lake, which works as a beautiful mirror.
The perspective of the terrace gives more depth to the image. This one must be a very special place for a dinner.

Stunning blue hour shot Danos. The water is so still we cannot see where the reflection begins. Funnily enough the reflection of the outdoor cafι is not as clear. This natural phenomenon looks better at night.

the rock formations are beautiful but in your presentation they are twice as interesting because of the reflection :) It really enhances the composition.
Perfect blue hour timing introduces a great atmosphere. It looks spectacular. The concrete fragment on the left provides a good point of reference.

Η απόλυτη συμμετρία με φανταστικό φωτισμό και χρώματα. Η blue hour δίνει ένα εντυπωσιακό αποτέλεσμα στην σύνθεση. Επικρατούσε απόλυτη νηνεμία και το νερό είναι σαν καθρέφτης. Απίστευτό.
