Photographer's Note

This is my third photo from the Syntagma Square (Constitution Square) on TrekEarth. Syntagma is a central square in Athens. The building which you see behind the fountain is the Old Royal Palace which houses now the Greek Parliament. At the base of the Parliament Building there is a Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at which every hour you can watch the attractively choreographed change of the guards. This is my photo from that ceremony:

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier itself is not visible from this angle, it hides behind the staircase as this point of view is in fact very low. If you look at the top of the stairs you can find there vases with plants. That is the place where I took this photo:

In the place where I stand taking this photo, behind my back starts pedestrianized Ermou Street, which is probably one of the best shopping streets in Athens. If you follow that street you will pass the Kapnikarea church which stands in the middle of the promenade and which I showed you before here:
