Photographer's Note
Here I introduce to you the cathedral of Bonn, "St. Cassius and St. Florentius".
The antecessor of this collegiate church was a roman necropolis of the second century, which was replaced in the 6th century by a hall which already was used as a church. It was built amongst others out of the rests of the roman altar building. At the end of the 7th century this place was linked with the legend of the martyrs Cassius and Florentius
.
The today's church was begun in the 11th century and it was inaugurated in 1153. Today the basilica comprehends Romanesque and Gothic elements and the interior is affected by the Baroque.
The cloister also originates from the 11th century. It is a real oasis of calm amidst the lively city.
If you click at "map view" at the left you can zoom down (+) to the cathedral. You can see it's steeple's shadow on the Cathedral Square in the middle of Bonn and the quadratic cloister besides the cathedral.
With this picture, taken in my favourite City in Germany, I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year!

Hello, Frank.
It's very sharp. Blue sky, beautiful winter lights and shadows. And I like Romanesque arichitectures.
I reminded that I had learned about Bonn as the 'Capital of West Germany' at primary school. Times are changing....
Merry Christmas

I would have preferred it without the foreground in shadow, but I imagine that it was quite difficult to avoid.
The strong, frontal lighting really makes the cathedral stand out superbly against that clear blue sky. It really captures the atmosphere of a cold, bright winter's day.
A good composition, although it would have been even better if you had managed to exclude the intruding branches on the left.
Have a good Christmas Frank.
Cheers,
Ben

What great light you had and a wonderful blue sky. You have captured excellent detail and sharpness. I like the angle you chose so the main tower is off-centre.
Merry Christmas to you and your family too.

Hallo Frank,

Hey Frank,
Excellent clarity. I love the dark slate roof against that deep blue sky. I really like the POV you used too. The cathedral nicely fits to the left of the frame and not dead on center.

Frank,
Merry Christmas.
I think your note is right .. this is a strong stoic bastion of ancient tranquility in a modern world .. wonderfully composed .. I love the way the modern world is shadowed against the light of the upper regions of the image.
take care,
John

Hello Frank
Bests lights on the cathedral, and very nice composition without any disturbing car on the foreground.
A very good chance for you to have this good weather and no chance with me since a long time.
Greetings from a grey sky in Orlιans.

Frank,
This is a good shot of the great cathedral. I like the silhouetting of the cathedral against the deep blue sky. The deep shadows in the foreground are a little distracting but unavoidable. Thanks for a great photo.

Hallo Frank,
genau das Bild, das ich nicht richtig meistern konnte. (Zeit und Entfernung waren zu kurz, was das Weitwinkelobjektiv produzierte, war eher schrecklich als eigenartig.) Dein Bild ist herrlich, Hut ab!
