Photographer's Note
Magnatic North
After a disturbing message from Murat (Mcmtanyel), TE seems to be prolonging his life for a while.
Some repair work has been done but not all parts have been repaired (yet?), but we can continue for a while.
In the forum I read a message from SteveH in which he expressed his concerns about the survival of TE and reported on a small study of alternative sites. I have since visited his recommended website https://www.aminus3.com/ and signed up.
At first sight, I find on this site many things that made TE so attractive. Who knows, we may need this escape route soon. I'll keep informed.
But I will remain faithful for TE as long as possible and upload 3 photos today taken in the Schirn Kunsthalle in Frankfurt, during the last stage of the short tour de Lars and I recently made and of which he has already shown some photos.
The photos were taken at the “Magnetic North” exhibition. An exhibition built around the Canadian “Group of Seven”. The website of the Schirn Kunsthalle provided very little information, possibly with the idea that this would promote the sale of the expensive catalogue.
In the further preparations for this text, I discovered that the same exhibition will be opened on September 11 in the Kunsthal in Rotterdam. The website of this museum did provide excellent information about the exhibition.rnFrom which the following quote:
“Magnetic North”
The magic of the northern lights, idyllic landscapes and majestic views of the Arctic: over eighty masterful paintings and thirty sketches show a mythical, imaginary Canada. 'Magnetic North' focuses on the Canadian modernist paintings of artists around the Group of Seven, an artist's collective that is still immensely popular in Canada. At the heart of the exhibition, audio-visual works by the Algonquin-French artist Caroline Monnet and the Anishinaabe filmmaker Lisa Jackson, open up a critical perspective on the paintings. These films by women who are rooted in cultures of the Indigenous peoples of these territories enable us to look at the landscapes by the Group of Seven in a different way.”rnrnThe three photos show, it will not surprise you, the interaction of the visitor and the art

Hello Rob,
The paintings look interesting enough for a visit to the gallery, but as always it's the interaction between art and visitors that makes the photos interesting. Each picture has its own approach, and in the second one, (WS #1) you made the lady almost merge with the painting. And her hair matches the frame perfectly.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Rob,as you know, I'm not a big fan of museums while for you are like bread ... eheh ... an exhibition dedicated to the great north, but in the paintings I don't relive the magical atmospheres I experienced in Iceland and Scandinavia, I they look rather like pseudo graffiti-naif experiments. However, the post is very interesting, also because the exhibition was not much publicized so you saved us the cost of the catalog with your post .. ehehe .. Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Three picture with your favorit subject, Rob, observing people while they observing art-items on display.
We can clearly see the IPhone screen picture with the painting on the wall in full frame.
Good afternoon,
Ike

Hello Rob,
It's a bit worrying when the main features of the site seem to go off line. Strange to see a scene from British Columbia in Canada depicted in the painting. Could have been copied from the Victoria Museum of native American art. The totem poles depict ancestors & vip's. Fathers, grandfathers and great grandfathers and chiefs. The photographer has just about nailed the framing and capture. Tfs!

Hi Rob,
You have captured well the concentration of the photographer. The point of view is showing the details of the painting. The light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Goedenavond Rob,
Mooi foto werk, bedankt
John.

Hallo Rob,
Een mooie combinatie van het Canadese landschap en de kleine digitale versie op het schermpje ervoor. De warme kleuren maken een mooi contrast met de donkere rechterhelft.

Hello Rob, I am pleased that you have managed to share some of the work from this exciting exhibition.
I particularly like 'the best photo pose' with the bonus of the photographers shadow on the floor.
I will have to investigate the 'Group of Seven' having never heard of them before.
Very useful notes, thanks.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Rob
That's the modern way to record for us every day events when the iPhone has made significant inroads into photography. Must learn the 3 finger technique! but the real deal is still a DSLR
Well seen Rob, a great piece of cleverness...

Hi Rob
Thanks for that suggestion from Steve although you mispelt the website - it is https://www.aminus3.com/ (au not an e). I've also been looking for somewhere else in case TE fades away completely.
In the mean time this looks like an interesting exhibition and your 3 photos are all good ones about the audience.
cheers
Ian

Hallo Rob,
Vele groeten, Paul
