Photographer's Note
I have recently presented a statue of the Pope John Paul II. This time a statue of another important religious figure, Martin Luther. If somebody would like to say that all Catholic priests are conservative, here you are: Martin Luther was a Catholic priest. Moreover, Copernicus was a Catholic priest. Basically, the most brilliant minds in the Middle Ages were among the priests because they spend some extra time on education. It seems that nobody is perfect though. I discussed it in a different note, Pope John Paul II had areas in which he was brilliant, like politics or theology, but he entirely ignored the incoming problem of the child abuse by Catholic clergy, which devastated the church in the west. Albert Einstein, as everybody knows, has revolutionized physics, and yet till his death he never approved quantum mechanics, saying that "God doesn't play dice". Martin Luther, for example, was quite a devoted anti-Semite. As wikipedia says, "Luther expressed antagonistic, violent views towards Jews and called for the burnings of their synagogues and their deaths". Ironically one of the dogma of Catholic church which Luther questioned was the infallibility of the Pope. Basically saying that nobody is perfect. That is most certainly true: nobody is perfect! Keeping that in mind I think it is wrong to vandalize monuments. I think it is worth to closer look at the important figures from the past, learn from their achievements and from theirs errors as well.
This picture was taken in front of the Frauenkiche (behind my back here) at Neumarkt, one of the most beautiful spots in Dresden. I suppose while on this square, everybody rather looks in the opposite direction,
In fact I have showed here a photo taken towards Frauenkirche from between the little trees which you can spot there:

Hello Mariusz,
I won't argue with your thoughts, only to say many awful things have happened in the name of religion!
Your photograph is exceptionally sharp, with strong b/g colours helping to rebound attention into the square and the off-centre focal statue. You did well to elevate Martin Luther above the buildings so that he shows up clearly against the sky.
The three figures are an important element, animating the scene and directing attention to the statue.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hello MAriusz,
A splendid large square ... almost empty in the middle of summer!
Superbly captured with a perfect blue sky.

Hello Mariusz,
I do not hudge who is perfect or not, never... But i can appreciate the sight of the large square and the black statue contrasting the bright facades with red roof-tiles.
Good scale and depth achieved.
Good afternoon,

Hello Mariusz,
The square and statue in foreground are nice to look at.
But the buildings in background make your picture completely
An excellent picture.
Very well done, TFS.
Best regards,
John.

Hello Mariusz,
First I wanted to write that this is a very different part of town than what we usually see in the photos of this very beautiful city. But then I took a look at Google Maps and just as you wrote this picture is taken in the opposite direction of the famous baroque Frauenkirche. I had expected this was one of the better residential areas further away from the center.
Your photo is noticeably better than the ones of this square we find on Google Maps and much better and more attractive than the views we get on the virtual walk there that was recorded in rainy weather.
I don't remember seeing that other side of Martin Luther in our history lessons. Maybe it was explained but I forgot.
Good for the explanation here.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Mariusz
A great note to accompany this great shot. Problem is: is this a mere imperfection or a substantial flaw? And how does our answer to that question change over time?
When I was there, l tried to get a shot of the statue too, but wasn't satisfied with the light.
Here I also like the blue, red, white, grey colour layers.

few days ago I saw a woman (german descendant) using a T-shirt with the face of luther, because she is luteran. when I was born most of brazil are really catholic, around 95 percent..nowadays the protestant sects are so important as Catholicism. curiously because most our priests were very not conservative, many of them live a not religious life and even are leftist and love rebellions and are involved in politics. one of our priests was our mayor here where I live and many people abandoned the church because him. people here was hunting a more conservative church and became protestants.. nice view of this square.
take care

Hello Mariusz,
A great photo of this large square in Dresden with the tall statue of Martin Luther and the attractive faηades behind the row of trees in the background. Even though the weather is much sunnier than during our visit, it is a lot quieter here than when we were there, but that was on a Sunday, which may explain the difference.

Hello Mariusz, interesting and thought provoking notes once again.
You had perfect weather, the red roofs contrasting with the very blue sky.
A good composition with the statue off centre, and the inclusion of the photographers.
Kind regards, Jean.

Mariusz, the vast square was almost empty that day maybe due to the coronavirus pandemy and the fear of the residents to go outside. It is encircled by beautiful buildings. The memorial dedicated to Martin Luther stands out in the middle of the square. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Hi Mariusz,in fact no one is perfect, regarding Pope Wojtyla there are also many allegations about rounds of money coming from the mafia and never returned that lead to the assassination of the banker Roberto Calvi found hanged under the black friars bridge in London. We do not know so many things and even Luther and Copernicus made good and bad times. However, this photo was a great opportunity to talk about something different.Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hello Mariusz,
Martin Luther was also responsible for the rise of iconoclasts who destroyed thousands of statues and works of art in cathedrals across Europe. You had ideal weather. I wasn't so lucky. Tfs!

Hello Mariusz.
A beautiful square, with that series of new buildings, surely from the postwar period, its joyful color stands out on that splendid day, the black sculpture of Luther also stands out with its color.
Sharpness, lighting, color, and the magnificent composition; they are all perfectly realized factors, in this image.
Well done. I like very much.
You have a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.
