Photographer's Note

Crottorf is a moated castle in the northernmost corner of Rhineland-Palatinate, not far from Siegen, construction began around 1550.
The castle is inhabited by the owner, and only partly accessible on weekends. Any photographic approach at other times is difficult, if not impossible, as the building is surrounded by dense forest or fences. This is the only situation which I could take advantage of, showing one of the towers, and I still had to lift my camera above my head.
Marion Grδfin Dφnhoff, a highly reputed post-war female publicist and co-editor of the German weekly journal "Die Zeit", spent her last years in this castle where she also passed away. She had a memorial erected in honour of those who unsuccessfully tried to kill Adolf Hitler on July 20th, 1944, and paid with their lives for their attempt to save Germany from total destruction. I assumed the rusty iron plate to be the memorial, but this does not seem to be the case.
