Photographer's Note
After three very long days of meetings and sitting in a room without windows, I was glad to stretch my legs and see what I could of Berlin. It was an uninspiring, dull and bitterly cold day and all I could look forward to was getting home, when this early evening view from the Sony Center lifted my spirits.
The Sony Center in Potsdamer Platz was completed in 2000 and houses shops, restaurants, a conference centre and cinemas, but for me its roof was the most distinctive feature. The tall building behind is the central offices of Deutsche Bahn. I used my wide angle lens to capture the roof, but then cropped a little of the left and lower edges to make more of a feature of the geometric forms.
In the 1920s and 30s, the Potsdamer platz was the busiest and one of the liveliest squares in Europe. It was a major public transport hub, and the area contained numerous bars, cafιs and cinemas.
This all came to an abrupt end in 1943 when the Potsdamer platz was left to ruins by allied bombing. After the second world war, the square located between the American, British and Russian sectors, became a no-man's land. It was completely flattened with the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961 when the demolished buildings were pulled down.
In the 1990s, the Potsdamer Platz became the largest construction area in Europe. The square, together with several adjacent blocks were redeveloped, including the buildings seen in this photo.

Hello Susanna,
What an interesting pov you got here. I had to look longer to see what was going here, but now i have a slight impression i think it's wonderful. A great artistic shot, but also your exposure with the light on the tower and in the sky is spot on...very good creative work.
Have a nice evening,
Henk

Susanna,
you certainly managed to transform a uninspiring, dull and bitterly day into something extremely interesting, engaging with a certain touch of warmness with this purple sky. I obviously already saw many shots of the Sony Center but each shot is somehting novel and your image follows this pattern. very creative and a perfect light balance!

Hello, Susanna -
Superb graphics and a fine POV to show these structures at an unusual angle. You've also managed the artificial lighting well and the details are sharply shown. Well seen and well captured.

Amitiι.
Daniel.

Very unusual graphic image with creative use of the wide angle, celebrating the converging lines from both perspective and WA distortion. The sky colour also makes an unusual background. No doubt blue hour combined with orange light pollution to make this purple colour.

Hi Susanna
As you know I would have lots of fun here. I like the upward-looking pov. The composition is well balanced and the violet sky is an attractive background.

Hi Susan,
Excelent architecture shot! The roof is really interesting, I tought at first that it was a big wheel and was wonderering how could you had found this POV... The hight green building coming out of the right low corner adds a lot to the graphic effect of the composition. Perfect light control.

Flavia

Hi Susan,
Very impressive perspective, this strange vault seems to fly away towards the sky.
A very beautiful photo of contemporary architecture
