Photographer's Note

Village Travemόnde is administratively a borough of Lubeck.

German mόnde corresponds to English mouth, and it is also used to describe an exit of river into the sea. For example: Tynemouth, Wearmouth in England or Warnemόnde in Germany. Obviously, the river passing through Travemόnde is called Trave.

Travemόnde is a lovely resort town along the Baltic Sea coast. The building which you see in this photo is probably the most notable hotel. Its name has changed many times so the name which you can figure out from the board in the photo is not valid anymore. This building faces a wonderful sandy beach (behind me here) which is in the summer filled with the very popular in Germany baskets for people to sit in to hide from the wind. It is a great beach destination and from Travemόnde northwards there are plenty of little resort towns with amazing beaches with fine clean white sand, some being wild other with high quality touristic amenities. The port in Travemόnde has terminal for huge ferries and it has numerous connections with Scandinavia.

I regret I dont have this hotel photographed in the context of the beach. Sadly, I am digging now in archival photos and I have no chance to return and improve the compositions. Most the time I spent in Lόbeck was in the pre-digital times and my first cameras were of poor quality.

Bardzo klarowna oprawa tego zdjecia sprawia, ze oko sie samo sie przyciaga do spojrzenia. Ja wlasciwie znam to miasto portowe z dwoch krotkich wizyt, dawno, dawno temu, tam wlasciwie rozpoczelem swoja wedrowke emigranta z lat 80tych.

Kazdy z nas ma chyba cos takiego w swoim zamysle, ze wraca pamiecia do miejsc i czasu odleglego, kiedy nie bylo jeszcze swiadomosci komputerowo-cyfrowej, a mozna by wowczas wiele interesujacych zdjec nastrzelac majac obecna technologie dostepna na codzien. Pozdrawiam.

Hello Mariusz,

I looked at your photograph for a few seconds before I read your notes and couldn't quite decide the purpose of the building. It does look very 'grand' yet 'low level' for a hotel. Such buildings usually have many storeys to accommodate visitors and for the view.
However, having reconciled myself to its use, it is a place I would like to stay; it looks beautiful, especially if it has the view that you describe!
Your photograph captures the details of its lovely bow-style frontage, whilst the steps invite us to ascend.
I love those roof windows. They are so typical of Germany and the French regions abutting Germany.

A hotel that looks a bit like a casino.
Very nice place where you stayed.
