Photographer's Note

Good Morning Everyone,

Yesterday, I posted a photograph from Cologne Central Station, showing a red train. I was entranced by the metal canopies in the station, creating superb shadows.

The metalwork is not restricted to the station, for it it can be seen nearby on a bridge.

Not far from Central Station this huge metal bridge carries the railway lines cross the Rhine. It is the Hohenzollern Bridge. My photograph shows a red train in the process of crossing the bridge.

Originally, the bridge was both a railway and road bridge. However, after its destruction in 1945 and its subsequent reconstruction, it was only accessible to rail and pedestrian traffic.

It is the most heavily used railway bridge in Germany with more than 1,200 trains daily, connecting the Kφln Hauptbahnhof and Kφln Messe/Deutz stations.

I will post a workshop photograph showing the bridge from the opposite direction.

I took these photographs whilst holidaying on the Rhine but that boat is not the one we were using.

Have a good w/e, Bev :-)
