Photographer's Note
Yesterday I visited - once again - my favourite city here in Germany, Bonn - and this time I visited the cloister of the basilica "St. Cassius and St. Florentius". It was a dull and rainy autumn day, but I hope, my photo shows a bit of the remarkable atmosphere of this place.
The antecessor of this collegiate church was a roman necropolis of the second century, which was replaced in the 6th century by a hall which already was used as a church. It was built amongst others out of the rests of the roman altar building. At the end of the 7th century this place was linked with the legend of the martyrs Cassius and Florentius.
The today's church was begun in the 11th century and it was inaugurated in 1153. Today the basilica comprehends Romanesque and Gothic elements and the interior is affected by the Baroque.
The cloister also originates from the 11th century. It is a real oasis of calm amidst the lively city.

Good use of the pillars to frame this courtyard. The architecture of the building is very nice. I saw a castle in Poland that looks very similar to this one. It was also built by Germans several centuries ago. Your picture is good because it shows the charm of the church. Good colors, even under rainy conditions, and details. A nice place to visit I imagine :-)

I noticed the thumbnail before I saw it was your picture Frank.
I like how you have framed the building and grassy area with the arches. Very well presented, and the garden colours are nice and vibrant.

Hallo Frank,
ich mag Bonn auch sehr. Den Kreuzgang hast du gut eingerahmt mit den Sδulen. Bei besserem Wetter wδre das Bild sicher brillanter geworden. Aber man kann es sich nicht aussuchen.

Hi , Frank .
Wonderful peaceful photo . I would not expect to find a place like that in a big city !
You have framed it very well using the pillars . I can't help comparing this fine architecture with the rough ruins I saw at Sprogoe - they were built at the same time !!! Amazing !
Nice place you took us to here , Frank !
Greetings from a Denmark between golden autumn colours and a forecast of snow.!
Have a nice sunday , my friend !
Greetings

Frank,
This is another of my favourite captures of German medieval buildings. You have overcome the difficulties of bad weather with mature routine - you have used the rainy weather to convey romanticism and melancholy. Beautiful!

Hi Frank
I have been pre-occupied for a while so a visit to you photos was a must. I simply adored the photos of Switzerland and look forward to visiting there next year.
As we have come to expect with your photos, they were all very well taken and presented each place well.
This photo is no exception and I just love these buildings and their courtyards.
Well taken in a light that will be all too common for the next few months.
Have a great week
Regards
Peter

Guten Tag Frank,
One can show the silence on the photograph whether even if on the picture? Surely so, when succeeded to Edward Munch to paint the scream. In fact looking at this picture refers the impression that suddenly we hit our mark to the land of the silence. This dark, natural frame strengthens the still this impression and causes, if we stopped half way that not to make turbid this silence. Very good idea on the picture, the excellent realization.
Best regards from already surely November Poznan,
Jurek

I like the way you have used the cloister arch to frame the view across the square. The repeating archways make an interesting pattern. The wet weather has provided an attractive shine on the roof tops.

Hi Frank,
It's a very peaceful place. It's hard to imagine it's in the middle of the town. Nice place to rest, for meditation.

hi frank, stille, die man sehen kann. :-)
jedenfalls, ein toller und perfekt eingerahmter blick
in den alten, steinernen kreuzgang.
great job & viele grόίe, thorsten.

Hi Frank,
Thanks to the photographer's note for the full description of the place. Noting the three level of architecture Romanesque and Gothic elements and the interior is affected by the Baroque. Interior of the cloister seems great according to the description.
Good angle of shooting giving the viewer an idea of better architecture inside the walls.

Un rayon de soleil aurait bien fait l'affaire, Frank, mais on ne commande pas le soleil !
Il reste un clichι bien composι avec une partie pour les toits en ardoise et un cloξtre bien proportionnι autour d'une pelouse bien verte.
