Photographer's Note
ABC, One two three... remember that tune at the time young Michael was still a human being? Pretty much one of the most cheerful & joyful songs I remember : it gives you ants in your pants, something you'd sing along on a really beautiful day.
You know...One of THESE days.
One of the few that leaves you thinking "Gosh what a wonderful life and what on wonderful planet. PS for martians : go home!".
It was one of those days in Saint Gilles, saturday October 25th. I swear.
A few times in the year somebody from my office needs to go to Reunion island, spend ten hours flying lying flat on my business class seat, getting stuffed with champagne for diner and Crêpes Suzette for breakfast, disembark in a tropical airport, work a few hours, then take a taxi to a beach resort and spend the week end. Somebody has to do this dirty job... and half of the time, it's me.
Saturday Oct 25th was one of my day off, so I decided to bring along my scuba stuff and my underwater housing to soak deep into the Indian Ocean.
That saturday the sun rose on a cloudless sky and it was what even the local divers call a blessed day.
Ill make it short : Dolphins in the morning, then just the time to swallow down a typical creole sandwich filled up with chinese pork wontons, chili sauce and grated with swiss cheese (the kind of light food divers look for in between dives) and we were ready for the afternoon dive.
Turtles to begin with, up on the boat a whale and her pup breached 50 meters ahead and stayed playing for 15 minutes then on our way back another pod of 20 dolphins was playing 100 meters off the famous surf spot. We jumped off the boat to mix with the surfers who came out from their breaks, the kayakers who were comig out from the harbor... and of course the dolphins.
Coming back on board the diveboat I looked around and analyzed what I saw : the white glaring sunny beaches of Saint Gilles, far away in the background a crown of mist clouds attached on the rolling green mountains of Reunion, the beach breaks and the surfers on the waves, the red and yellow kayak dots on the emerald sea, dolphins surfacing around... in the distance I could distinctly hear a street band parading in the streets and playing local sega music, Gran Mère Kalle festival, the Creole Halloween, was at his peak : the marmaille (creole word for lil'ones) welcomed us with their horror masks.
Yeah well.. apart maybe from the horror masks. Isn't it what we could imagine as close as the imaginary paradise we're promised. I think it is, and therefore I'd rather stay on earth to live some more of these days. Give me a 300 years long life.
I just miss the dolphins singing.
123, ABC! cum'on, brothers and sisters, sing with the dolphins : 123... they got rythm.

Luko,

your good mood is contagious ;o)
really pretty "alignment" of dolphins, rather dreamy view for a never diver but miraculous indeed (have to listen to the rhythms now).
what i notice for myself is that underwater a 'blue' mood is a happy mood, nice to know ;o)
and yes it is a wonderful planet and a wonderful life (well, at least sometimes)
but ... i am smiling, so thanks!
dora
ps: are you sure about the 300 years thing?

Bonsoir Luko

Geraldine

Hi,
a dream of many come true for you...a photograph that I find enveloping, soothing, tender. A piece of the amazing beauty of the world around us, it's a wonderful world, yeah....couldn't agree more. The emerald tonality is gorgeous and I like the softness of it all. I was at La Réunion about 15 years ago, wonder how much it has changed.
So let's forget for a sec all the misery that's done to them (and the rest). I like the vertical frame, keeps them close to the eyes and enhances the rythm:),
TFS the bliss

Michèle

Pretty incredible image Luko...this ain't just a holiday snap of a pretty dolphin in the water, this is NatGeo type documentary here.
Your way of catching human moments translates well into this underwater scene, with plenty of interaction and relationships within the group.

Wow, that's an enthusiastic note (and communicative, by the way)! And a very very lucky shot. A blessed one! Don't lose the tempo! Excellent timing for your shot!!! Dolphins are not so slow!... Congratulations Luko!
Best regards

Hi Luko, I have taken a look at your site & your photos are excellent, however on this occasion I must admit this picture is a little disappointing, animal photos are one of my favourite types & I know how difficult they can be, this must have been hard to shoot, but the crop is obviously way to tight, still the picture has good qualities, TFS, kind regards Wilson.

Salut Luko

now that we are beginning to have a snow here looking at image like this is really heartwarming ;-) I always admire animal intelligence, geese creating V shapes, beavers building dams, and definetely dolphins with their very unique abilities, synchronized swimming and so on.
Fantastic underworld photo, love the colours and cropped beaks, which I knew some will question why they are cropped, .... happy happy 1 and 2 and 3 ;-)

Salut Luko,
Même ta note me surprend! :-P)
T'es déjà pardonné.

Hi Luko, I'm so glad I found your Gallery! (Via the Critique of the Day - you sound like you know what you're doing) And from looking at your Gallery - I find that you also look like you know what you're doing. Brilliant shot - beautiful subject matter, perfect colour saturation and I love the lines. Congratulations, Lisa.
