Known since XIe century, but already place of settlement during the prehistory, it is the linguistic border between the languages of oil and oc.

The Pont-Vieux
Prieurale Saint-Maxime

The Pont-Vieux, on Vienna, built and altered of XIe century at the XVIIIe century, Confolens.
It is one of the oldest bridge of the Middle Ages, built of 1030 to 1050, over a length of 127 m. Equipped with triangular spurs for the upstream and flat buttresses for the downstream, it comprised, a drawbridge and 9 arches whose 1st, 4th and 9th carried each one a square tower staging of 9 m with 10,40 Mr. the drawbridge was replaced by one 10th arch in 1660-1675. Turns and constructions were removed in 1777-1778. The triangular pier-heads were rounded at the XIXe century.

Confolens, (occitan: Confolent), is a French commune, located in the department of Charente of the Poitou-Charentes area, populated of 2 855 Confolentais, distributed on 19 km, that is to say 150 hab./km. Created by the lords of Chabanais to the junction (from which it draws its name) of Vienna and Goire.
Known universally for its international festival of arts and popular traditions of the World, the town of Confolens organizes the festival of folklore of Confolens since a half century.
