Sète is a French commune of the department of Herault and Languedoc-Roussillon area, populated of 43 400 Sétois and Sétoises distributed on 24 km², is 1792 hab/km². It is the town of artists like Paul Valéry, George Brassens, Manitas de Plata, Jean Vilar, the brothers Di Rosa.

Each year, take place in Sète, during Saint-Louis, in august, water tournaments controls by precise rules. These tournaments are a Languedocien tradition of which the origin go up at the XVIIème century.
Two men, the "ajustaïres", on a platform installed with back of two boats, the "tintaine", armed with a lance and protected by a shield, the "pavois", try to be made fall into water when them boats cross. These boats are propelled by ten oarsmen ordered by an owner coxswain, while with before an Oboe and a drum play the traditional air of these engagements.
The winners become local celebrities.
