Photographer's Note
I guess many of you didn΄t notice him, but Gustave Eiffel stands in a lonely corner at one of the pillars of the Eiffel tower and keeps a blind eye on what goes on there.
Gustave Eiffel (1832 - 1923) was one of the big architects of his time, even though I think architects of that time were more engineers than todays architects.
He worked a lot with the large railway projects designing bridges and railway staions. He proposed the Eiffel tower to the world exhibition and got it built even though many Parisian at the time thought it was an awful building, I found this quote on tne net.
"(We) protest with all our force, with all our indignation, in the name of unappreciated French taste, in the name of menaced French art and history, against the erection, in the very heart of our capitol, of the useless and monstrous Eiffel Tower. . . . Is Paris going to be associated with the grotesque, mercantile imaginings of a constructor of machines?"
Maybe less know is that he together with Auguste Bartholdi and Richard M. Hunt designed the Statue of Liberty that is a French gift to USA. As Eiffels main interest was iron and steel structures he was the one who designed the interior iron structure of the statue.

Very original shot of that well-known subject, Ebbe. I΄m glad you noticed him...
I like the composition and the contrast between the golden tones and the rusty metal.
I like this shot very much as it is now – I΄m just wondering if you could have shot from lower angle and in vertical format to get more tower in the image...

Nicely contrasted and well composed. We have, here in Porto, and old train bridge made by G. Eiffel, same style as the tower in Paris. For security reasons it's out of service since 10/12 years ago only. Regards.

Nice detail with a good story, you had the eyes open to spot this one. In a way I agree with the old critiques that the tower is rather ugly, but it has a fascination that goes beyond that.
I think the point of view could be better, the balance between stone and steel is not quite right and I find the lines of the stones too diagonal overpowering the statue a bit. I think I would prefer a slightly higher point of vision, maybe it's time to start carrying a stepladder around, just look at Jeppe!

Very good and original shot of this famous tower. You are right, I didn't notice Gustave's statue. Wonderful golden color, and excellent composition and note. Well done, Ebbe.

I really liked this image. The depth of field is very good. The detail and sharpness of the bust is superb!. The thing I like the most though is your composition, and how it ties the two (the tower and the bust) together.

So this is the man behind it all, Ebbe! And you spotted him - at first I thought he had a mobile earphone in his left ear. You did a very nice composition of man and his work. Despite Torben's suggestion, I would have gone low on this one and worked with a shallow DOF, but on the other hand upward angles are my "trade mark".
I knew about the Statue of Liberty - and that there are two of them in Paris - but was he involved in the railroad bridge over the Nord-Ostsee-Kanal near Rendsburg too? It looks like a horizontal Eiffel tower!

Dear Ebbe,
Effective demonstration of Gold, Silver and black colourations here resulting in a very pleasing result....shame we don't get a slightly wider angled shot showing a > view of Eiffel's framework. But that which you have posted here fully deservant of the hatful of points you have received so far, hopfully with more to come!
Good luck,
