A typical wooden gate (but becoming rare), on a bright winters day in the Cotentin. The stark contrast in lighting is not so much an effect of exposure as the actual nature of winter light. "Chasse Gardee" means "Hunting Reserved" -- not "no hunting" but reserved for a group or club.
