Photographer's Note
Pιtanque is a form of boules where the goal is, while standing inside a starting circle with both feet on the ground, to throw hollow metal balls as close as possible to a small wooden ball called a cochonnet ("piglet") or jack. It is also sometimes called a bouchon ("cork") or le petit ("the small one"). The game is normally played on hard dirt or gravel, but can also be played on grass, sand or other surfaces. Similar games are bocce and bowls.
The current form of the game originated in 1907 in La Ciotat, in Provence, in southern France. The English and French name pιtanque comes from petanca in the Provenηal dialect of the Occitan language, deriving from the expression pθs tancats, meaning "feet together" or more exactly "feet anchored".
The casual form of the game of pιtanque is played by about 17 million people in France, mostly during their summer vacations.

Bonsoir Jason,
C'est une belle scθne pleine de vie. Le mouvement de la boule est bien prιsent et nous plonge presque dans l'action. J'aime aussi le Cafι de la place, avec ses spectateurs attentifs. J'aimerais y κtre.

Hi Jason,
The game "Pιtanque" is known and widespread in France, wherever you go you see people, most of them retired but on weekends youngsters play as well.
Nice moment collected, with watchers on the Cafe' balcony looking with interest.
Regards,
Ike

Jason
it's easy to see why this game is so popular in France. A leisurely game in the sun holds great appeal. Although I am sure that for many there is a very competitive desire to win.
You have captured a good action pose here. The boule is in mid air and you can see the movement in the thrower's hand. I like how you have captured the cafe behind with its name running along the canopy. It helps convey the informal setting and relaxed atmosphere in which the game is traditionally played. Well done.
Finlay
