Lille A glimpse of the GrandPlace

From a side street we catch a glimpse of the GrandPlace in Lille.
The official name of the square is la Place du Gιnιral de Gaulle but everyone knows it as la Grande Place.

Among others the building of the old Stock Exchange (la Vieille Bourse) is located here. See my previous picture.

On the picture here you notice the building La Voix du Nord. At its top, you find the statue of the Three Graces in gilded bronze. They symbolize the three former provinces of the region: Flanders, Artois and Hainaut.

The big wheel operates majestically every year from late November to the end of January. From in one of the 36 gondolas you get great views of the center of the city.

Hi Paul,

You chose fantastic POV, what a view. Nice winter decorations, and this big wheel is amazing. It must be fun to go by it (and make phiotos). But I would be scared probably. great depth and excellent warm colours. Superb shot. I like the WS photo also, impressive view.

nice the nocturne shot view of this part of GrandPlace in Lille,as we can see it though the covered corridor with the floodlight to makes the scene so beautiful and unique.I like the various light management as the building of La Voix du Nord,with its specific architectural style to brings out the details of it.

Hello Paul,
this is a beautiful photo, a composition of lights and colours that create a festive winter atmosphere. It's amazing that from this point of view under the arch you were able to include so much of the Grand'Place and its festive mood. You we also able to include the warm orange light reflection under the arch and to create a feeling of expectancy to move towards the open space of the Place. A lovely, heart-warming picture!

Two fantastic pictures which show us this beautiful place, on this superb night vision.
Great as you have framed the beautiful building with part of the front wheel, all in the arc of the street, the other image in a plane facing Place more fully see the big wheel which gives a superb touch to so extraordinary a monumental .

Very nice dynamic scene here, the image is fully packed with this lit elements. As to this image, the BG was focused leaving the outskirts of FG not, is there a way you could capture both in focus? I was just wondering. Anyway, excellent note, nice inclusion of a WS! Well composed!

beautiful place but most importantly excellent composition with a very creative framing. I like very much the inverted text which causes a pleasant confusion here. Interesting orange light dominates the scene. The framing also perfectly helped you to deal with the black sky.

This is one of the most interesting and attractive photos I've seen of France in a long time - and there are many beautiful photos here on TE. I love the colours, the reflections on the pavement and the overall control of light. The signage is the focal point of the composition for me, as is the graphism of the ferris wheel. Fantastic shot, congratulations dear friend.

I have enjoyed browsing your gallery and pausing over your lovely entries.

This is a most engaging shot; it demands attention as the eyes are funneled, via the opening, into the square. Although there is much to see, the elements are in harmony, not trying to overpower each other.
For a night scene, you have fine sharpness and no noise.

Hi Paul,

Both shots are worthy of being the feature, but if I absolutely had to choose only one, I'd go for this...I really like the "hint" of seeing the square. There's a great sense of what's to come once you step out onto the place, seeing it from this short distance, which leaves a touch of anticipation and excitement. Even without a person in sight, the colors and attractions make this look and feel lively. Full of interesting details and nighttime atmosphere, this would entice any passer-by to stop in for at least a quick moment or two. :) Great approach and concept, this looks inviting. Hope you're having a nice weekend. Take care.
