Corsica was under the water fall. A new photo The citadel of Corte
A building dating from 1420. We owe it to Vincentellu Istria

It is a place of power and symbol of resistance especially in the history of the island. Its location, halfway between Ajaccio and Bastia, made a strategic issue. Vincentello d'Istria was in revolt against the Genoese, as Ghjuvan Petru Gaffory. General Paoli made the city the capital of Corsica during the 15 years since independence lasted.
The medieval castle, there are only the first enclosure. It was overhauled after the defeat of Ponte Novu (1789) by French troops. It was enlarged with new buildings and new walls on the orders of Vauban. Since that time she served as a barracks until the 1980s, from the Foreign Legion.
The Regional Museum of Anthropology of Corsica was inaugurated in 1997. The building was redesigned "Serrurier" Barracks by the Italian architect Andrea Bruno. You can admire the gallery Doazan, donor of most of the exhibits, and a space for temporary exhibitions.
