Photographer's Note
The view when nearing the summit of the Cormet de Roseland, when climbing from Bourg Saint Maurice.
The 1968 metre Cormet de Roseland is a mountain pass in the Savoie region of the northern French Alps. The road connects the Alpine towns of Beaufort to Bourg Saint Maurice, and takes in some of the most beautiful views in the Alps.
The 2005 Tour de France will take the cyclists over the Cormet de Roseland as the first Alpine climb of the 2005 event. This will be on a stage taking the riders from Grenoble to the ski resort of Courchevel.
When climbing from Beaufort, the road climbs past the Lac de Roseland and is a popular place for walkers. When climbing from Bourg St Maurice, there are views over the snow covered peaks of the Mont Blanc massif.
