Photographer's Note
Even thought I am on my way to Dubai I still have my trip to Provence on my mind, therefore I'll post one more picture of lavender field. It is similar picture as the post before, I've just chosen different composition with slightly more helicopter like view and more clean lavender field.. Those lavender farmers don't realize that photographers need those field really clean to take really nice photos :-)
This picture was taken close to famous lavender village - Sault, really wonderful little town with long lavender tradition.
The use of lavender has been recorded for more than 2,500 years. Egyptians, Phoenicians and the people of Arabia used lavender as a perfume -- and also for mummification, by wrapping the dead in lavender-dipped shrouds. In ancient Greece, lavender was called "nardus," "nard," or "spikenard" (named for the Syrian city of Naarda) and was used as a cure for everything from insomnia and aching backs to insanity. By Roman times, lavender had already become a prized commodity. Lavender flowers were sold to ancient Romans for 100 denarii per pound -- equivalent to a full month's wage for a farm laborer -- and were used to scent the water in Roman baths. In fact, the baths served as the root of the plant's current name. "Lavender" is derived from the Latin lavare, meaning, "to wash." Romans also used lavender as a perfume, insect repellent and flavoring. They even added dried lavender to their smoking mixtures.
Few plants are burdened with as much folklore and legend as lavender. Some of the stories are contradictory, or at least historically out of sync. One legend says the plant gained its perfume when the Virgin Mary dried the clothes of the baby Jesus on a bush, which from then on was aromatic. However, even before that, Cleopatra was said to use the scent to seduce Julius Caesar and Mark Antony. Another favorite piece of folklore is that if lavender flowers are placed between bed sheets, spouses will never quarrel.

You really had a lot of fun shooting the images for this series. In this one I find the light on the harsh side, could be my monitor, but there is too much contrast between shadows and highlighted areas. Did you try a gaussian blur overlay to tone it down? Anyway the composition is excellent, the diagonal lines create a strong graphic element.
You have a great eye.
Cheers,
Enrique

Interesting to compare this to your previous shots on the same subject - I think the lines are less defined here, so it makes it look more like a sea of lavender than a farm. This seems also more simple and direct, and the placement of the house near the bottom instead of the top gives a greater feeling of stability. Great work!

I really like all of your lavender photos Lucie. It’s hard to decide which one I like best. The diagonal lines make this photo very dynamic, and I love how the lavender color dominates the photo. That shack is truly lost in lavender.

Hello Lucie, the rows of lavender look like velvet corduroy to me,the texture is fantastic.
The building is in just the right place in your shot.I like the diagonal lines going across the scene.

Hello Lucie,
Un cadrage diffιrent mais tout autant plaisant que ta derniθre image ! Celle-ci donne encore plus d'espace ΰ l'avant de la maison et est peut-κtre encore plus belle !
Bien vu !

Hello Lucie,
I like pictures of this type, with element who distinguishes oneself from homogeneous background. Your composition is great, colors are strong and natural. It seems that little house stands on small island on lavender sea :) Good work!

Lucinka!
Regardless where you're heading to a place like the Provence will stick in someone's mind very deeply. The place, light, colors, smell, etc go so deep that it is an unforgetable moment in live. I guess that is why I love van Gogh so much, beacuse he was able to capture the essence of all this in his painting. Now back to your image! Funny to see how the previous image with the same title draw much more attention compared to this one here, although this has much better saturation of colors and I think that the composition with the trees in house in the left lower corner is also much stronger. Go figure TE member's taste. Again wonderful the strong minimalistic graphism that you created with the tight framing. Have a good time in Dubai and Middle East!
Regards, Peter
