Photographer's Note
Cassis is a pleasant town on the Mediterranean coast of France, east of Marseilles. It is located in a very scenic part of the coast. This photo was taken just before sunset, when the low sun lit up the orange cliffs of Cap Canaille in the background. The tourist literature says that this is the highest sea cliff in Europe, but I don't believe that. The tourist literature is usually wrong whenever it mentions the highest, longest, widest, biggest, deepest, oldest, newest or any other superlative. Maybe it's the highest in France.
The stone building in the middle is the Cassis Chateau, a medieval castle that has been rebuilt in modern times and is now a private hotel. I'm not sure what a private hotel is, but I assume the main characteristic is that it's very expensive.

Hi Vince
Someone in a comment on my Cliffs of Moher photos said that they are the highest sea cliffs in Europe. I had a look on Wikipedia and guess what - neither are. The highest in Europe is Gran Canaria in Spain at 1027 metres whereas the Cliffs of Moher are just 217 metres! Your Cape Canaille at 394 m are the highest France and just #14 in Europe.
Anyway they are spectacular and you photo is a great one.
cheers
Ian

Ciao Vincent
This part of the French Riviera is stunning. The red cliffs and roofs contrast well with the blue sky. Good sharpness and high pov. Tfs!

Hello Vincent,
This is a magnificent view and it's enhanced by the warm light. The dark red, almost orange coloured brick roofs correspond well with the tone of the huge naked rock. The green areas provide a fine contrast to the brown/red elements. You handled the colours and light nicely, as well as the sharpness.
Regards,
Gert

Hello Vince,
Wonderful panorama of Cassis and the high cliffs near the Mediterranean!
Beautiful colour contrast between the red cliffs and the blue sky & sea.
Excellent composition in which the middle part with the castle is also very attractive.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Vincent,
Ha! Ha! I had to laugh at your definition of a private hotel! In the dictionary, it states a hotel where the owner has the right to refuse entry to people who arrive by chance which, I suppose, is very much in the same vein!
You found an excellent viewpoint, where the tiled roofs make a colourful f/g, before we see the eclectic, seaside houses and the castle, with the cliff backstopping the tour.
The light is a wonderful feature in your photograph, gilding houses but particularly the dominant cliff.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Vincent,
Beautiful late afternoon sunshine. And quite impressive old fortifications with long walls. Rusty tone mountain cliff look great on this light.

Hello Vincent, the evening sunlight has really illuminated the wonderful colours and textures that we see here.
The cliffs immediately caught my eye, and then on closer inspection and reading your notes I could view the castle clinging to the side of the hillside.
I must have missed this area when on holiday in Provence. It is very beautiful.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Vincent
A picturesque coastal setting photographically and geologically: the strata in the headland as main feature, shows up so clearly by that unique rocky-formation fitting the frame as a strong eye puller. The fg complements and quite a feast of colour so to speak. Beautiful in presentation.
Best regards

Hi Vincent,
The scene is impressive. The point of view is showing the details of the buildings, of the castle and of the cliff. The light is giving good colors rendering. Have a nice day.
