Photographer's Note
On my first morning ever in Paris I woke up and remembered that my first night ever in Paris had been rough on me. I did not know where in Paris I was only that I was in a hotel I was not supposed to be in. My only clue was the slip on the keycard which had a hotel name I did not know and the number 538. Never mind, I went down to breakfast and back up to 538, pulled the curtain to the side and suddenly I knew where I was!!!
In more precise words, my plane was late, I walked for an hour to my hotel because I misjudge the mapscale, the hotel had sold my booked room to someone else, got me a room at another hotel and put me in a taxi to that. Arriving there it was 1.45 am and I had been active all day so I was very tired and just went in the door without looking around.
My new hotel was in the complex of hotels close to the Eiffel tower. Those hotels seems to have been built in a rush in the 60΄s and 70΄s and the outsides of them are not the prittiest architecture. I lke the contrast of the light and slender tower to the compact hotel block so typical of industrial building methods of later days.
The picture was taken in first light in January in a beginning snowfall, I kept the blue cast to keep that feeling.

Thanks to your pic and notes, Ebbe, I think Paris will be very quiet next summer, we will not receive tourists longer before at least 2010 ;-)
Just joking. I can understand your feeling when waking up, this is not very exciting. You wanted architecture, you got it !... Fortunately, the lightened window brings a kind of hope, nothing is never totally grey...

Dear Ebbe, first I thought "What is so interesting about this picture ?" Then I scrolled down and saw it :) Very informative info :) The colours really capture the mood, mornings can be really grey in grey.

This story is a thriller, Ebbe, and I'm looking forward to the next chapter.
I like this shot very much. I like the light in one window, which is the only color in this image. The Eiffel tower is very unexpected fro this view. The blue cast expresses your feeling very well, I hope it got better later.

The tiny square of warm golden light in the big and scary blue/grey world, and the way it is placed in the frame as a counterpoint to the tower makes this photo very, very good. The is both great formal composition and a very interesting mood here. It looks like a still from a film, and your story in the note could fit right in the scriptfor that film, perhaps as an opening sequence to set the mood.

This is a very nice composition. It (as your day) starts a bit dull - well, the Eiffel Tower isn't really dull, any time of the year. But the building isn't of the kind that makes anybody happy*) - until you are surprised by the warm light in that one window!! Please don't crop that part away!!
*)Ask me, I lived for one year (1969/70) at Roslδtt's Gεrd, a concrete ghetto in suburban Jφnkφping...

nice composition, i like the one room lit up in ostensibly the only other color than the grey/blues of the photo.
