Photographer's Note
Autumn 2006 in Finland ended with a sudden and strong snowstorm. Traffic all over southern Finland was complete mess, trucks being stuck on uphills and buses effectively throwing away all schedules. And many cars still without winter tyres. This is also my scavenger hunt entry to Bad Weather theme.
While a phone camera produces noisy shots, it is enough to show that there isn't much visibility at the central square (Keskustori) of Tampere.
Filtered noise, adjusted contrast, desaturated and toned.

Hi Kari,
this is quite good. The harshness pf the weather is really well articulated by the harsh look of the photo. Infact the fact that its taken with a camera phone is maybe the better choice? Its not quite a good photo technically, a bit low on sharpness and resolution yet those shortcomings really help to underscore the harsh weather of the moment.

Very moody shot! I can feel the bad weather. :-) I first thought the graininess was from the snow or ISO-rating, not the quality of the camera.
I love how the people are spread out and the closest are really strong silhouettes!

Hi Kari,
Normally i don't believe in pictures made by a cell phone, but in this case it is reproducing a mood which is rather excellent for this kind of work. Full of noise, you really smell the bad weather and the snowstorm...very good.
Have a nice weekend, Henk

This is a very atmospheric shot and a look into what is to coem for us, maybe this winter. For a phone shot its incredible.

The vintage quality is interesting, gives it the appearance of 1936 rather than 2006

Hi Kari,
Good to see you again.Being a bit of a weather fanatic I was attracted to this image immediately.I have some knowledge of Finnish weather as a result of my visit there but this seems like an unusual phenomenon no?....end of August WOW!The noise adds to the coldness of the image....almost B&W...I like it.Take care.
Regards, David

Hello Kari!
Snow! I want snow! ;) You tell me that you took this photo with a phone camera? Well, it proves one thing, we can take photos with atmosphere even with a so-so camera. Because for me, here, there is a mood. The mood of muffled sounds that only snow can do. There is also a feel of old photo here (if we do abstraction of the lamp posts). I hope you enjoy snow!

What an exquisite shot! I love the way you have captured exactly what it feels like to be caught in the storm in FIN during the winter. The black figures making their way into invisible places and the lights painfully trying to pierce through the thick air. Excellent. Truly wonderful! I think shooting it with the phone camera made it just even more spot on!
TFS! Julia

This is actually quite good coming from your phone camera. The noise and everything does complement the picture. You might want to post the original on the WS for us to see. TFS Andre

Hi Kari...
That's what I was missing here, on TE...
A real snow with a real bad weather in a real snowy city, taken with the 'real camera'.
Dream city for the Olympic Games.
Absolutely fantastic presentation. True to the bones.
So far - a winner for me in this season winter pictures.
Nokia should offer you an award for this presentation, Kari.
All the best, buddy

Hi Kari,
phone camera or not, I like the mood that you've captured here. And overall felling is that this photo was taken time ago in pre-film ages. I like it very much and it goes into my favourites.
Have a nice day,
Tomi

The essence of snowfall...your tiny camera managed to capture the mood very well.
It is difficult to catch the mood of a snowfall; I had tried and failed, so I know the difficulties. Well done.

one of the photos it doesn't matter taken by a camera phone or a dslr camera :)
Great subject, the sepia tone fits like a glove :)
