Photographer's Note

Homelessness is a global issue, certainly not unique to Denmark. Like everything else, however, it takes on a diferent face wherever we go. As a traveler part of our journey is to distingush unique events from events unique to a culture.

Only five minutes and a couple blocks before I took this shot, I was approached by a somewhat scruffy gentleman who introduced himself so:

Hello, my name is Olef. I am living on the street. Would you possibly have any spare change you can lend?

I had never heard such a courteous approach to panhandling.

This shot is the look I'm more familiar with, a simple container beside a sleeping body. I liked the contrast here, beween dark and light; fashion and boxes; lifeless appearing alive and alive appearing lifeless.

I wonder which is more typical to Denmark?
