Photographer's Note
One thing nice about living in a country of islands and peninsulas is that one has many opportunities to look out over water. I grew up in a place where wilderness consisted of tree covered mountains. Here, in Denmark I've come to find wilderness in open water. Last weekend I was lucky to watch this storm come in and pass over the island of Orψ which lies in issenfjord, just northwest of Roskilde.
Technically speaking, I'm not sure if this picture should have been color or B&W. Because I was there, I really like the color, but I still wonder. Any comments are welcomed.

Hello Kate. I think this looks great in colour. Nice use of the boat in the foreground and you have captured the menace of the storm very well. Nice tones. Chris

It is the contrast of colours that adds the most to the shot i think. Good composition, I like how much of the storm you have in the picture. Good capture

Hi Kate. I think it's really nice in color. I think the storm would loose some of its "power" if it was b/w. Anyway, I like the picture, well captured. Patrick

Hello Kate,
I prefer it in colour! the colours are very expressive. IMHO, the B&W version would lose "emotions". Colours are also very important for our perception of the world, aren't they?? just like music.
Interesting composition. It's curious that you chose this POV, with the boat on the right - in a way it is a balance for the heavy threatening clouds; and the colour of the boat matches the bright orange-white stripe near the horizon.
Best regards,
Elena

Hi Kate,
I would note convert it to B&W, it is the colors (especially the different greens of the water) that make this dramatic impression very attractive. Great management of the light! TFS!

Hello Kate.
This approaching storm is truly frightening. You have done well to choose a large format, it'is a photo realistic and effective.
Kind regards.
Bobo.

Hello Kate:
A great composition, no doubt, and the elements are distributed across the stage very well.
The frame is balanced, shows a variety of hues and particularly, a proper handling of light.
Within your gallery, I consider it a great job, as all previous.
Special greeting from Colombia, John

Hi Kate,
This photo has a special feel to it I think - both dramatic with the dark clouds, but somehow more cheerful still with the bright colours of the boat and especially the soft orange-yellow light in the background. Well done!
But since you were having trouble deciding between colour and B/W... maybe both!? I posted a workshop using selective desaturation. Some people love this technique, others hate it. In your photo here though, I think it might make sense. :)
Cheers,
Jordan

Bonjour Kate.
J'aime beaucoup la force de cette photo. Le canot renversι du premier plan tranche avec ses couleurs et sa clartι avec le paysage sombre et noir qui l'entoure.
De la trθs belle photo !

This is a very beautiful picture too. You can almost smell the situation. The strong yellow colour of the boat in the composition matches very nicely the yellow of the sky under the clouds and contrasts superb to the darkness of them.
Best regards

Hi Kate,
This truly is an impressive storm and you have captured it well but there is one thing that is not sitting with me and that is the orange boat.
I really think it would have been a better shot if the whole boat was in frame by pulling back or alternatively a low POV taken down by the water with maybe some of those rocks in the foreground [without the boat] would have worked better IMHO. Of course this is all down to taste but I think the storm speaks for itself and the boat is distracting. Possibly the chap who did the workshop with selective desaturation might have gone the other way and desaturated the boat and left the colour in the sky, would that have worked ??
I'm still giving it full smiley though ;o)
Cheers

Hello Kate! This is the moment when you want to hide, maybe under this boat, waiting until all is over. Pretty scary and yet totally fascinating what kind of weather hangs up there waiting to be "unloaded". The strong orange of the little boat adds a great contrast to the otherwise dark mood before the storm comes. Excellent, I really like this. Have agreat night, Barbara.

Ohhh this is brilliant - the colours work beautifully, contrasting each othewr... and with the closeness of the boat, it gives such a huge sense of depth and space.

Hi Kate,
A beautiful photo and a very threathening sky. I like your foreground because the color of the boat is a good match for your orange-like sky in the background. I personally prefer in this case color to black and while. Well done.

Paul
