Photographer's Note
Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers
One of the most striking buildings in Prague is this Dancing House from 1996 situated at the corner of Jirasek Square and Rasin Quay alongside the river Vltava.
An extravagant building where you can recognize the hand of the famous Canadian architect Frank Gehry. He developed this swinging tower together with the Croatian-Czech architect Vlado Milunić.
Critics of the building pointed out that it doesn΄t fit into its surroundings, where various Art Noveau houses can be seen. Also the unusual shape of the building was seen as disputable. But after several years, it is regarded as one of the most interesting Prague buildings from the end of the previous century.
The project has a remarkable history in which the former Czech republic president Vaclav Havel and the Dutch company “Nationale Nederlanden” play an important role.

Hi Rob,
This is an original sculpture. The point of view is showing the details of the sculpture on the roof of the Dancing House. The light is giving good colors output. Have a nice day.

Hello Rob,
Its nice to see you back, and thank you for your comments today. This building is often shown on TE, but rarely these details, and certainly not as the main photo. It's a remarkable sculpture but easily overlooked when seen from street level because the unusual shapes of the buildings steal the attention. I imagine a giant nest of steel birds, but I guess the architects had something else in mind. But it should be up to each one to let the imagination flow.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Rob,I remember very well the Prague dancing house, one of the few signs of modernity in this city asleep in the past. Once again you manage to surprise us by finding an original way to show it to differentiate yourself from the usual postcard I see in the WS, large zoomed in on the top captured with amazing details, the imposing and close perspective in the other WS is also very beautiful. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano.

Hi Rob,
Dancing House has become familiar to me from TE. But there's no way I could have recognized it from these rooftop details. Weird and wonderful mess of mesh! Nice play of sunlight on those nets.

Hallo Rob,
Dit is een mooi detail van het toefje op de Tsjechische taart. De details zijn mooi te zien en de blauwe lucht komt in verschillende tinten mooi door het gaas heen.

Hello Rob, I recognised the title of the building, but was unsure as to which part your main post was referring to until I saw the workshop pictures.
This is one building that I would definitely wish to see if I was visiting Prague.
I guess that it was so revolutionary in its design initially that I can understand that the people perhaps would be very critical of it. Especially where Art Nouveau was the norm.
Thank you for sharing these interesting pictures.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Rob
Good to see you popping in to TE again.
The workshop show the certainty of the building being a Frank Gehry one. The main one is an amazing piece of abstract sculpture. A good trio of photos.
cheers

Hi Rob
Imaginative shot and what a mesh up there, certainly interesting architecture but (in my opinion) what a hideous looking building! Excellent capture

Dear Rob,
As an architect you are clearly aware of nice details and created a good abstract from it. Otherwise, I'm happy to see you showing activity again on the site.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hallo Rob,
Vele groeten, Paul

Hello Rob,
The Fred and Ginger building has been shown before but I like how you have taken a section and attracted us by showing it as a very abstract design. This could the net from Ginger's hat or one of her extravagant bows.
It is both strong and yet fragile and I love the play of light.
The w/s add context to the main shot.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)
