Photographer's Note
St. Vitus Cathedral Rijeka is the only Baroque rotunda of monumental proportions built on Croatian soil. The construction of this church began in 1638 according to the project of the Jesuit architect G. Briano. The famous Venetian church of Santa Maria della Salute and served as a model for the construction site of the church, an elevated position in the center of the urban system, which at that time was heavy and still medieval elected. Originally, there was a church bearing the same name, the protector of the city.
The order of the Jesuits decided to use, for the inspiration of the project, the cult of the Miraculous Crucifix of this church, the Christ, as stated in the popular legend, started bleeding when Petar Lončarić angry, furious at losing the game launched a stone cross. The initial gothic crucifix joined the baroque altar of the new church, and the place for the stone and a small hand Lončarić bronze as part of the inherent narrative devotion to the miraculous relics were also found.
Investment in the new church of San Vito exceeding the powers of the local community and its construction, with interruptions, lasted a century. However, judging from the facade surfaces not covered with stone slabs, the construction never finished. The substantial change occurred in 1725 when the new construction manager, B. Martinuzzi added a gallery. Local legend tells us that this happened because the Jesuits did not want that for the monastic liturgy, the novitiate to mingle with the people, especially with the beautiful girls of Rijeka.
The interior of the church is a true "work of art" Baroque ("Gesamtkunstwerk"), a unit of style. The authors of plastic lush luxurious interior, altar and pulpit were teachers who had come from Gorizia and Friulia: S. Petruzzi, P. Lazzarini, A. L. Pacassi and Michelazzi, of which the latter remained in Rijeka . The author of the drawing altar of St. Joseph with the Child Jesus was a painter from Ljubljana (originally from Lorraine), V. Metzinger. An unknown master painted baroque altar of St. Ignatius Loyola.
IXX century belong to only Benvenuti statue of Our Lady of Sorrows at the altar of the same name and the Assumption of Simonetti box. In 1742 the church dedicated represented only part of the group that had previously included buildings Jesuits seminars and courses that were destroyed between two world wars. The portal Jesuit school was retained because it was moved to the building of the canon, which was built next to the back wall of the church of San Vito.
In the main doorway of the Church of San Vito, the inhabitants of Rijeka have incorporated a cannonball with a funny inscription in Latin, which translated says: "This fruit was sent to England when he wanted to drive from here to the Gauls". The inscription is a testimony of the Napoleonic Wars episodes that took place in Rijeka in 1813. Since registration is a timetable, the year can be seen by reading the larger letters as Roman numbers. The church became the cathedral of St. Vitus between two world wars.
-----------------------------------------------

Hello Luis,
This is a fantastic round cathedral. surrounded by yellow buildings. Your composition is very straight to the point, showing us the details of the façade with excellent sharpness and exposure. The carefully saturated colours and perfectly handled contrasts have given the photo an impressive three-dimensional quality.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hola Luis,
wow this is so unique! I am shocked seeing it since it is so different from anything I know so original, I am surprised that looking through so many guidebooks to Croatia I didn't see this lovely cathedral.
This makes me think I should really get back to Croatia again and try to focus on the north part this time.
Beautiful postcard like presentation, with lovely light and colors and pleasant sky.
Exactly as I love it!
Super interesting as it is so unique!
Excellent work,
M

Hi Luis
An attractive grand architecture indeed a challenge to try and get all the building in but you've come up with a great image. It's subtly clear, colourfully crisp and immense detail to savour, i think your shot does justice to its grandeur and majesty. You make it look so compelling, Congrats.
Best wishes

Hello Luis,
A great photo of this round cathedral. The light came from a perfect angle and thus created a beautiful play of light and shadows on the walls. The white cathedral stands out very nicely against the background of yellow houses and blue sky.

Bonjour Luis,
Bon dimanche

Hi Luis
oh i wish more cities had these rotunda styles of architecture. aren't the beautiful and classic, I think they are. and they chose an excellent color as well, it stands out quite well against most of the yellow buildings in the bg.
love the upfront and imposing compo, it makes a strong visual statement, especially with the blue sky too. lovely shot
