History
The photo shows the protected 13th-century late Romanesque tower of the St. Adrian Church.
Adegem is one of the oldest villages in East Flanders. Under the name “Addingahem” it appears for the first time in the year 839. But there was only a real village around the 17th and 18th century.
In January 1977, Adegem was added to the municipality of Maldegem, as part of a large-scale merger wave aimed at increasing the financial scope of the municipalities. The government imposed these mergers from above, the residents had no say in this. In Adegem there was a lot of protest against the connection at Maldegem.
I hope you like it.

Hello John,
Strangely most of the church looks more recent than the Romanesque tower. Maybe I am totally wrong, but the tower is anyway the most beautiful part. It is in any case a magnificent temple for a small village. I like how it is surrounded by so many trees. The red wrought iron gate contrasts very nicely against the trees next to it. You had a lovely light and the colour came out very favourably.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hallo John,

Vele groeten, Paul

Hello John,
Very nice church, it doesn't look so old. Very interesting tower with the clocks. attractive red gate. I see that you made a stroll in your city.
You write only Oost-Vlaanderen (or West Vlaanderen), and not more specific, like Bruges or Adegem, and so on. Why? Then I could see more pictures from the exact place. Adegem is the place where is the War Museum, right?
Have a great time. When it is hot, better stay at home and drink a lot :).

Hello John,
The church looks much newer than 13th century but, maybe that's due to some later renovation.
It is, however, a very well composed photograph, the red gates getting immediate attention and then, the road guiding naturally, left to right, to the well placed church, showing up well, in total sunshine.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello John,
This seems rather a curious hybrid of a church with the tower, which is the most attractive part in my eyes, having a different colour and style to the main building. The point of view is well chosen to show us the architecture and set it in context. The light is well managed and has a good effect on the colours. Clarity is excellent indeed as ever.

Hello John,
The red brick facade of the church is in stark contrast to the grey clock tower. The crucifixion scene in the apse outside and the blood red iron gates at left are other likeable details. Tfs!

Ciao John
una foto che sembra semplice, ma che hai composto con molta cura, hai fatto attenzione alla grande ombra sulla strada e hai incluso il cancello rosso per dare un tocco di colore.

Hi John,
very attractive little church with quite unique architecture. The whole area seems very clean and tidy.
Beautiful weather day with resulting well saturated colors.
The vegetation surrounding the church decorates it very well.

John, I like these small and not showy village churches very much - and I like that this venerable building of the tower is preserved so very well. The red wrought-iron gate on the left is a beautiful additional detail in the photo.
Have a nice weekend!
