Photographer's Note
This picture is taken in Doel, a village which will perhaps disappear, because of the expansion of the Antwerp port. The village lies on the left bank of the Scheldt river, but since the port has no more room on the right bank, it continued to grow on the left bank of the river. Due to containerization of trade, Antwerp needed an extra dock to handle containers. This dock, called Deurganckdock, is now ready and will be opened on 6 July (it will double the number of containers handled in Antwerp!). It lies just next of the village of Doel. It is now threatened by plans for another dock. The village's fate seems definitely decided upon.
Anyway, Doel looks almost deserted now, apart from a few inhabitants who have received a temporary right to live there. The houses are not maintained any more and neither are the roads etc. Everything looks worn out. It is very sad story, but it is the price to be paid sometimes for economic growth.
As you can see it is a nice place though, there are still a couple of tea-rooms since the place is popular during weekend with cycle tourists. I thought the mill on the Scheldt dike, and the nuclear power plant formed a great subject to shoot. I hope you are of the same opinion!

Bonjour Mathieu,
Compliments.
Danel.

Good shot! A contrast indeed a true beauty and the beast photo!!
I think maybe I woudl have liked to see a crop of the photo and cloning out of the sign.
I will do a WS to show what I mean.

Hai Mathieu, what a lovely photo with modern structure over taking the old. Sad tale indeed but your photo is nice.

Hi Matthieu,
Mice contrast of different epoques; as the foreground sign says: priority to economics...

Dag Mathieu. Mooi genomen. Ik kom nog terug.

It's trully great idea to shot the windmill together with the nuclear powerplant in the background!!! I like it very much. I think however that the canvas does not make a good addition here.

Beste Mathieu,
Groeten,
John

Hi Mathieu,
Very nice shot. Beautiful colours and sharpness. I agree with you. The mill composed very well with the power plant and the smoke added a nice detail to the scene.
Well done.
