Photographer's Note
Allow me to introduce you to Fonske! I will start by drawing you the picture of what you cannot see on this image...
Fons Sapientiae is the name of a statue in the centre of Leuven standing next to the magnificent town hall and St Peter's Church. It represents a student reading a book whilst pouring liquid in his brain. Apart from being a typical Flemish name, Fons is also Latin for 'fountain'. So his full name means Fountain of Wisdom - quite appropriate in this university town that is also home to the Stella Artois brewery. Fonske was a gift from the University to the town at the occasion of the former's 550th anniversary, in 1975. Just like Brussels' Manneken Pis, Fonske is dressed in different outfits at special occasions. Now, what you DO see on this picture is something you cannot see without climbing on the statue, nl the inside of the book he's reading. To be honest I didn't even know the book had an inscription, I was just looking for a different angle... As you can see there is a mathematical formula resulting in the word GELUK, which is Flemish for HAPPINESS ! Since this "discovery" I have taken a particular liking to Fonske...The whole work of art embodies the philosophy Leuven inhabitants, and students in particular, embrace : knowledge (the book) topped with pleasure (the beer) brings joy! I guess happiness literally lies in a corner where you least expect it ;-) Enjoy !
Tech : sharpened and increased brightness.

Hoi Sara,
Toffe foto!

Groet
Tars
