Yes, I agree, cropping is one of the most difficult things to achieve correctly - it really can either "make or break" a picture!

I remember this image well - I think it might be the very same as this one but you have cropped it differently. Actually, I think I actually prefer the "portrait" format of your previous picture though I understand that people a lot better and more experienced than me have preferred the "landscape" format.

But wouldn't it be wonderful if you could show her green eyes like in this fabulous photograph?

This is a lovely picture which really shows the character of this woman. I, for one, would not feel tempted to meddle with her - I suspect she has a very strong personality and would not tolerate fools lightly!

Another fine photograph with lovely colours, perfect exposure and excellent details and sharpness.

Hello Aleks,
It's very interesting to compare the two versions of this portrait (thanks to John who provided the link). The woman's stern face is the same, but the different croppings give the pictures quite different characters. They both have their advantages, but with some hesitation I think I prefer this one, partly because more of the background is seen, partly becase you have toned down the saturation.
Was she angry/surprised because you took the photo, or was this her natural expression from a long, hard life?
I spend considerable time looking at old photos and thinking how I could change ther appearance with a different cropping. I think some of my pictures that have been most appreciated here had been altered that way.
