Photographer's Note
The railway line of St. Kitts was originally built around the island to transport sugar cane to the central sugar factory in Basseterre.
This 2.5 feet (762 mm) gauge line was completed in 1926 and operated seasonally from February to June for the annual sugar harvest. Intense international competition lead to end of over 350 years of sugar production in St. Kitts in 2005.
But the railway survived. St. Kitts Scenic Railway started running tourist excursions in 2003. Train currently runs between Sandy Point and Basseterre, through the easten coast of the island.
This is my 1000th upload on TrekEarth. Since starting the journey in 2005, I've visited a few places and learned many things about the world. And there is still a lot to see and to show. In the meantime many have left TE, but I think such a portfolio is worth maintainig. I hope you agree.

Hi Kari
I think this (or your previsou photo) is your 1000th photo here on TE. Congratulations, what an amazing achievement and it's been fun getting to know you and viewing your lovely work. I hope to see you here for many thousands more. Very fitting that you included a train in this shot :) The white looks well-exposed to me. TFS and I wish you a happy day.
Warm regards
Lisa

Hej Kari,
Nice colours of this quite special train and a good and well balanced photo. With this very narrow gauge and the quite high carriage I am a bit doubtful wether the train itself is well balanced. It must have been an adventure to travel here. Congratulations to 1000 pictures!
