‘Adiós Granada’
This is just about the most famous sight of Granada and I have no doubt you've seen it before.
Pedro (Periko) has taken a similar photo on the same place and has showed it also on TE.
Every visitor to Granada wants to take a picture on this spot. So here’s my version.
First you have to climb the bell tower of Iglesia La Merced (a beautiful church built in 1534, destroyed by pirates and rebuilt between 1781 and 1783, again damaged and restored in 1862).
You better visit the bell tower at the end of the afternoon, just before the church will close. Then the sun is in its best position to show the city as colourful as possible.
It’s of course the cathedral of Granada that you see towering over the roofs. Behind it you have the lake of Nicaragua.
In Granada I saw pictures on which you could also see the other side of the lake. But the mountains on the other shore are very blurry on my photo.
I arrived in Granada at the end of the afternoon. It was beautiful weather. I checked in hastily and walked fast to La Merced.
This was the first picture I took in Granada but I show it as the very last.
With this photo I say 'Adiós' to Granada, the most colourful city in the country and also ‘Adiós Nicaragua’.
I hope you could enjoy my series of this Central American country.
It was not so easy to show you pictures of places and people of whom I have such a good memory realizing that after my visit life in the country has changed suddenly and became a real nightmare for some. After the unrest began in April to the present 320 people have been killed and more than 600 imprisoned. I cherish the hope that Christmas and the new year may bring change and a better life for all Nicaraguans.

Hello Paul, Quite a long series from Nicaragua. beautiful picture as the last one from Nicaragua. Like in other pictures, fantastic colours and superb sharpness. Nice roofs, One can observe, that many houses have patios, like in Cuba. The lake Nicaragua looks here like a sea. Charming composition. I wonder what will be next :).

are you 100% sure this wasn't taken in Cuba??? Man, i swear, its as if i'm looking at Cuba. I took a photo almost EXACTLY like this. With a church off into the bg, while there is a garden opening in the fg just like in your shot. Sounds like you visited this country at the perfect time, before all the unrest. What can I say? its a picture perfect postcard, the clouds are a total bonus! nice. cheers

De binnentuin en de daken leiden ons heel mooi neer de kerktorens.

Hello Paul,
Everything has an end, but it has been interesting to see all these photos from Nicaragua informing me of many places and views I was not familiar with. Latin America has never been my part of the world (but I have been more than a dozen times to India, spending altogether more than 13 months there, and another two years in other parts of Asia, plus a year in Africa). Today's photos show the kind of view we have got used to now: an elegant church and attractive brick roofs. Especially WS2 is well composed with the church bell in the foreground.

Een prachtige foto om de stad en het land vaarwel mee te zeggen. Het uitzicht op de kathedraal met zijn gele gevels en rode torentjes is prachtig en de stad wordt zo schitterend belicht door de warme middagzon. De dakpannen van de huizen vormen een mooie voorgrond.

Quel beau point de vue su ces toits de tuile et la cathédrale (merveilleuse architecture coloniale) , avec la mer et une jolie bande de nuages en toile de fond . la composition est parfaite et les couleurs agréablement saturées .

Avec cette cour intéeirure quei ressor ce découpage de la végétaiton quei ressort en vert quel graphsime de toit et rendu des couleurs sur ces toits et en fond cette blele égélise que sirgit en jaune et rouge avec ces trois coupole fantastique vue

Een prachtig slot van deze zeer boeiende serie met foto’s van Nicaragua.
Het is wel bitter als je na een heerlijke kennismaking met dit mooie land, dat een gelukkige indruk maakt, je herinnering wordt verstoord door de wetenschap wat er kort na je vertrek is gebeurt. Laten we hopen het land weer snel terugkeert naar betere tijden.

The architecture in this country seems so colorful and photogenic!

Nice to see the sea on the horizon in the distance as well. Of course the cathedral is the highlight.
