‘Granada - Iglesia de Guadalupe’
Despite a restoration in 1965, the Guadalupe Church clearly shows how buildings in the tropics can be suffering from wind and weather.
The church has been built in 1626 by the monk Fray Benito Baltodano. Originally it was used as a cloister.
It is located about halfway between the center of Granada and Lake Nicaragua and in this neighbourhood there are clearly less tourists than in the vicinity of the cathedral.

Hi Paul,53 after the last restoration,it's time to do something, the facades are damnaged and have lost the colors completely. So we can see the naked skeleton of this beautiful architechture now,i like a lot the postcard style and the usual top quality. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Paul,
Tropical winds and weather (and probably poor construction material and techniques) often make new Indian buildings look old after just a few years, I have noticed. So it's probably the same problem here. Apart from that it's a nice composition from a good angle and as usual the horse carts enliven the view. Despite the not so clean looking faηade it's quite a beautiful church. The red gates mean a lot. Naturally I am fond of the WS of the two men. A simple composition with strong colours and a nice street sign. "Nothing special" at its best. It seems that a fair distance south of Nicaragua there is now someone who thinks that proper forestry management is to cut it down and use the area for commercial crops or cattle breeding. In Finland people are laughing at the guy up north who thinks they go raking leaves and twigs in their forests. Their advice is "Rake America great again",
Best regards,
Gert
PS Great colours in all these photos.

Hello Paul,
Another nice capture and interesting TE entry in your gallery.
The architecture is quite similar to other churches worldwide but here the dome at back part adds a different touch to it.
Good layout and pov, good ligth management and nice simple framing.
TFS and best regards

Hallo Paul,

Hi Paul
now this is a church! Look at that front exterior, thats awesome. and what a difference the red doors make, imagine if the doors were white or sandstone, it just wouldn't have the same visual impact. and the strange cone shaped done in the bg is well....a strange choice. The horses and carriages must suggest there are enough tourists here to make it worth while for them. excellent angle, showing the depth and size of it, I really like this one. cheers

Dag Paul,

Goed foto werk, bedankt.

Hi Paul
For a church that dates from 1626 and is in an earthquake prone area, it is holding up remarkably well. I wonder how much of the money allocated to restoration in 1965 was actually spent on the church? Good color, sharpness and framing. Tfs!

Hello Paul,
This is a splendid shot!
The church, at this angle, almost fills the screen with its imposing size and shape. We can see the steps on both sides and the warmly, welcoming doors. And the f/g is animated beautifully with the horse drawn carriages, adding further interest.
I do think the owner of the horses on the right is more sensible, parking his vehicle under a tree. The horses on the left do look tired in the heat!
The weather does look glorious for photography, maybe not for pulling carriages!
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Bonsoir Paul,
La prιsence des carrioles anime la scθne. La prise de vue permet de voir une double perspective de l'architecture de l'ιglise de Guadalupe. La qualitι de la lumiθre embellit les couleurs de l'image. Bonne soirιe.

Hello Paul.
Spectacular architectural complex of this church, unconventional, with its facade so different with two towers of pyramidal termination, also what is usually the dome of the main altar has that curious conical roof. The carriages give a nice timeless touch without any car in sight.
Point of view, sharpness, luminosity, color and the composition chosen are excellent.
A very beautiful photo. I like it.
You have a good day.
Best regards.
Luis.

I never had seen a colonial church with such shapes, remind me churches from armenia or georgia. curious the top of the towers. excellent angle showing the architecture, the chariots and the faηades. I like a lot such places.
I like deserts because I live in a green area and I like old places because my town was founded in 1948.
take care
jorge
