Photographer's Note

One of the National symbols of Costa Rica is the Carreta Tipica (Tipical Cart) and part of the tradition is that you paint the cart by hand with really beautifull designs. This carts are pulled by trained oxes, that we called in spanish bueyes. The people choose the calfs even since they born, in terms of how they look, the breed, and they try to match the color of the two animals, almost to look like twins. They provide good food and special treat to make them grow strong. Then the people neuter the calfs to make the oxes, and begin the training, until they are ready to work with the carts.
The most important product the carry in the past was the coffee, all the way by carreta from the central valley to the ports... long journey at those years.. but they also use open carts to carry wood to cook and other products...
Hope you like this photo of two nice bueyes. It was reall sunny that day, even at 08:15 when I took the picture. You can see some details of the paiting in the Yugo, the wood that is on the neck of the bueyes...
