Photographer's Note

Despite it’s run-down shape, this building caught my eye; the imposing Sofaer building constructed in 1906 - one of scores of British colonial-era buildings surviving in downtown Rangoon in varying stages of decline. This edifice is in a fairly decrepit state but still retains the grandeur of its young glory days. The charming cream yellow four-storey structure occupies the whole width of the block between Pansodan and 37th Street and became one of the city’s most prestigious commercial addresses then, in the central business district.

What happens to it now, hopefully the city's old heritage will not be swept aside to make way for new modern glass buildings, hotels and ugly office blocks..........
