Photographer's Note
Main Buddha image from Wat Mahathat in the old city of Sukhothai, Thailand, a UNESCO Heritage Site, and the first capital of Siam (around 13th. century). This ancient city is considered to be the cradle of Thai civilization, and is the home to the most graceful Buddha images in the country. "Grace" is what I tried to capture in this image.
I'd visited the city 15 years ago but didn't get any good images. I'd always wanted sunset/silhouette photos, and got locked inside the gates of the park in the process of getting them.
The image is flanked by pillars of laterite stone, and these pillars would have once supported a roof.
This is one of my first images with a digital camera. I know practically nothing about digital editing, but am hoping to learn now that the ball is rolling. This is all very new to me.
Thank you for the comments. Very much appreciated. I will get more images up in the near future and, hopefully, you will enjoy what you see.
Best
Mike

Hi Mike,
I like your use of back-lightening to have the silhouettes of the trees and the statue. I like the pastel tones of the sky.
I'm happy to give your first two points here on TE.

very nice silhouette work, different colors behind makes it more impressive..
the tree behind looks like a fan, ventilator for the statue or my imagination is on the clouds in the middle of the night!!
:D
thanx for sharing

Hi Mike,
This is a very strong image which just screams "Thailand". It's also a nicely balanced composition with the placement of the statue and palm tree and the columns to the left.
One small point is that I find the nails of the statue a bit off-putting as they tend to distract my eye. I think I'd be tempted to black them out.
In all a great shot to start on TE. Maybe a note next time?

Hi Mike my gallery neighbor today !
First welcome on TE and congratulations for this first one. I like your back lighted Budda. The sharpening is just perfect without the surrounding white line. I like also the placement of the statue in the frame. Also a good note.
Very good job, especially for the first post.
Cheers

Wow, beautiful colours and a surreal silhouette. A note would add interest to the shot. Welcome to TE, Jean
