Photographer's Note
Right after I got off from our bus that took us to a Hmong village, this Hmong boy was one of the very first villager who came to me, and greeted me with a smile.
I focused my camera on him but he ran away. I followed him as he proceeded to a rail underneath a tree. There, I saw his four other friends and I had a grand time taking pictures of them. They were very cooperative. If it were Christmas, he could have asked for his two front teeth. He has a priceless smile.

it is a nice capture, the colors are really special - very warm. his expression is great too. but the picture is way too bright, it definitelyy needs some post processing - that the reason of my workshop.
anyway, the picture is nice but it shouldn't be posted this way - PS first, then posting ;)

I agree with Maciek. this is a very nice photo Manny, but for me, the brightness is just a little overwhelming. Actually, it looks as though your camera missed the exposure on this one, as the boy is plenty bright enough and a big part of the background is blown out. Good shot Manny, but not your best.

He does have a priceless expression and the pose is charming. I agree with Maciek, though, that the shot is too bright. I'm also a little bothered by a halo (I'm not sure if that's the right word) between the back of his shirt and the background. I couldn't help but try a WS on him too, but I gave him a close crop and converted to B & W. It's not meant as an improvement, but as another version of the shot. See what you think.

Funny, but the overexposed bits in the shot doesn't really bother me. What is important here is the composition and the boy's expression, and both are just great. Well done!

I love those kids with missing front teeth, I have a daughter in the same age, and she also lost her two front teeth lately. Beautiful smile and a great capture. I read your note, and I have to say that the way you are chasing your subject is admirable.
Well done, Manny.

It's actually a great shot with nice DOF but a bit overexposed... Anyway, still a nice shot.

This is very charming again - it's proof that even without front teeth a smile can be utterly absorbing. It may lack the intensity and technical perfection of some of your recent postings, but it is another expertly handled portrait shot - I like the boy's pose and look, and the use of DOF in the composition. I also commend your endurance during the picture-taking as you describe it in your note. Good shot, Manny.

Such a shy and really priceless smile you have captured Manny! :-) I completely agree with Henry that the overexposed parts are not that bothering, as the composition and the boy's expression are forming the main subject. Very well seen and captured!

J'aime ce portrait d'enfant naturel et son sourire ιdentι !
La prise de vue n'ιtait pas facile. Il faut saisir rapidement ce moment magique de l'enfant.
J'aime beaucoup Manuel.
I like this portrait of natural child and his toothless smile! The catch of sight was not easy. It is necessary to quickly seize this magic moment of the child. I like much Manuel.

A great shot again Manuel. The eyes as always draw me in. The photo is a little bright but really not much of a problem for me.
